Ssgt. Douglas Donahue

Written by Zach Batson Edited by Jackson Jewell

Douglas Donahue was a sharp eyed Starborne scout who served in the Colonial 16th Rangers. His grandfather and father escaped persecution in Ireland in the 1880s, and settled on Concord Minor. His family’s farm was twenty miles outside of Merchant, where the young Douglas was educated on the glorious history of Old America. As a young man he grew very patriotic, and quickly enlisted in the colonial military out of school. In his early training, he participated in the annual war games with the HRE Colonial Reserve from Hochhimmel, where he was accoladed for his impressive tactical ingenuity against his Imperial training partners. Little could anyone have known that this practice would come in handy so soon, as Donahue would be pit against the Imperial military after America’s eventual entry into the Great War.

In spring of 1942, Donahue’s platoon was attached to a complement of tanks from the 20th Armored Division deployed against Imperial positions in Neye Galitsye. Easy Company, 319th Battalion, were ordered to clear and secure Hill 929, a key defensive position that had clear sightlines on enemy positions. The small strike force was unaware of enemies lying in wait in the woods surrounding the hilltop. The ambush was a crushing success, disabling a third of Easy Company’s armor within a few short minutes. After a fortuitous retreat, in which he rescued his CO from his burning vehicle, Donahue underwent a campaign of covert strikes against the Imperial unit. Overnight, his squad’s raids were able to disable a majority of the enemy’s equipment.

The Staff Sergeant’s daring rescue and subsequent sabotage achieved him multi-planetary fame, as well as the Concordian Star, and the Medal of Honor. After his deployment in the Imperial colony, Donahue became the poster child of the typical enlisted soldier, and was paraded around America’s many fronts, earthly and otherwise. His heroics are thought to have boosted troop morale, especially among his fellow Starborne. His presence in conferences back in the states also promoted the purchase of war bonds, and the handsome soldier was often the topic of gossip among the nation’s youth. Donahue has not been deployed since his heroic episode, however rumors among the paparazzi often say he is itching to return to the conflict on his homeworld.
