Raea
Sitting at the middle point on the Great TurkisBlau River, Raea is the winter capital of the Spring Kingdom. It is thought of as the finance capital of the East, known for its wealth in banking, investment, and commerce. In fact, there are more merchants and bankers in Raea than there are almost anywhere else on the continent. Raea is also known for its brilliant universities specializing in finance education.
Demographics
Raea is Spring's largest city in terms of both area and population. It has a permanent population of just over 1.5 million, and a seasonal population of an additional 750,000, that move with Spring’s Court between Raea in the winter and spring seasons, and Ver Coasta in the summer and autumn seasons. The population of Raea is mostly middle-class and upper-middle-class families, making up 63% of the population (with the lower working class making up 24%, the upper class making up 11%, and the royal class making up 2%).
Government
As the winter capital, Raea’s government is directly run by the Spring Kingdom’s monarchy and his court. The city elects a council of 12 (two from each district) which act as advisors to the monarchy on citywide manors. There is a system of courts that are picked from the monarch (districts appoint their own prospects for the monarch to pick between).
The monarch is generally well-liked in Raea, and their wiliness to be seen among the people is a point of pride for people in the city.
Infrastructure
Raea is separated into three sections, the old city inside the walls, with contains the palace and legislative buildings, and the finance and university districts. There is housing for this part of the city for the upper class (whose homes have been passed down through the generations) and housing for the members of the upper middle class who like to pretend they are upper class (even though these homes are smaller than they would have been in the newer parts of the city). Outside the wall, in the newer part of the city, they city is an elaborate sprawl of middle and lower class housing, more universities, banks, and merchants offices. While the outer city does not have the historical significance of the inner city, the buildings outside are larger and more opulent, even if the streets wind around the city in no particular order, versus the straight grid-like features of the inner city and across the river.
On the other side of the Great TurkisBlau River, lies the great port and warehouse district. This part of the city is seen as the dirty, industrial, part.
