Manticore Road A Grindhouse Fantasy Setting

Manticore Road is a setting where scattered city-state and frontier settlements dot a broad and varied desert littered with ruins of the old empire, held in check by dragon overlords.   There's a mix of genres at play here, but the overall look and feel for the world of Chryolet could be a mix of 1970's grindhouse aesthetic, Mad Max, and fantasy. Add in a twist of noir and fantasy dressings to color in the picture. Long highways stretch between eclectic enclaves. The lands outside the city walls are dangerous, with all kinds of monsters (sentient and not) looking for prey. Frontier settlements get by, and waystations along the road give some comfort. Many people outside the city walls prefer the danger to the "safety" the cities offer. The technology of the setting is based on the 1970's in America, with a fantasy twist. Analogs of cars exist, like the Hammerbeard Manticore, an equivalent of the Ford Mustang. Ever city is different in how it works. Some are monarchies dominated by old noble families. Some are run by the rich and their corporations, some by churches, and some are militaristic. What they all tend to have in common is that the people who rise to power generally aren't the most ethical, they all have walls to keep out the monsters of the wilderness... and they all have to answer to the dragons.   The dragons of the world were almost wiped out by organized kingdoms centuries back. In the end, the dragons themselves organized and fought back. Then they divided the world between the great wyrms, intending to make sure that the other races would never get that powerful again. The core region of the setting is The Azure Baronies, dominated by a Blue great wyrm, keeping just enough order to keep the "lesser" species in line.
