Yule
Held on the longest night of the year, when Óðinn comes to Midgard to hunt the spirits of the inglorious dead who haunt the living from the back of his horse, Sleipnir. It, and the nights leading up to it, are considered the most dangerous nights of the year, and all wish to be safe in their homes by the hearth. From this point on markets are not to be allowed. Children under 12 are encouraged to leave their shoes by that hearth filled with straw for Óðinn's stead. If they sleep all the way through the long night then they will be rewarded the next morning with their shoes filled with nuts, berries and honey candies that will taste of straw to anyone but the owners of the shoes.
