History

Svanrand is said to originally belong to Ullr, god of the hunt. It eventually found its way to Genma Björndotr who wore it during her travels with her student and foster son, Bairrfhionn until her death at the wedding feast of her nephew Ulfjolt Ragison and the wood elf Haleth Therendotr. When a Stanger arrived and trapped Ulfjolt in a magical prison of amber, Genma demanded he be released. Her command was not heeded, so Genma hurled Svanrand at the Stranger, only for it to be magically caught and turned back on her, piercing her heart. She died in the arms of her apprentice, who took Svanrand for his own and did battle against the draugar uleashed by the Stranger.   That night, in Lejre, the hall of jarl Asger, Bairrfhionn attuned to the weapon and became aware of the spirit possessing it.   In the early morning before the dawn of May 29th, Svanrand began to rattle in its sheath at the same time that Margu, familiar to Isa Hannodotr, detected something troubling that only she seemed able to see in the party's campsite. Upon learning that what the owl saw was the sensor for scrying, Bairrfhionn was left with no alternative than to believe that the seax was trying to warn him of a spy watching.   Bairrfhionn used Svanrand during his battle with the night hag that had haunted the dreams of his companions for three nights, bloodying her by bringing the enchanted blade down on her head.   After being led to the home of the hag coven, Bairrfhionn noticed Svanrand rattling once again. Upon unsheathing it, he felt the blade offering a larger portion of its true power to him. Using it, he slew that hag he had earlier wounded with the aid of Asmund Naivarason.
