Circle of the Elements

Some say that the first wizards were in truth elemental druids, while others believe they were simply druids who sought the most ancient aspects of the world, before even the plants began to grow or the animals started to swim in the seas. For an elemental druid, the raw forces of the elemental planes are everything, the living and growing aspects of the world are simply extensions of those elemental forces. Other circles see elemental druids as being closer to wizards or sorcerers than to those who embrace the living world. But to an elementalist, natural life is simply an evolution of what they call the raw world.

Bonus Cantrips

When you join this circle, you may choose one cantrip that allows you to:

  • control air or cause lightning damage
  • control earth or cause thunder damage
  • control fire or cause fire damage
  • control water or cause cold damage
  • You may choose a second type at 5th level, a third type at 8th level, and the last type at 12th level. Even if the cantrip is not on the druid spell list, the spell is nonetheless a druid spell for you.

    Circle Spells

Also as an elementalist, you gain additional spells. Once you gain access to a circle spell, you always have it prepared, and it doesn't count against the number of spells you can prepare each day. If you gain access to a spell that doesn't appear on the druid spell list, the spell is nonetheless a druid spell for you.

You may choose two of the following damage types at 10th level, three at 14th level, and gain resistance to all the listed damage types at 17th level.

    Elemental Wild Shape

At 10th level, you may expend one use of your wild shape to transform into an air elemental, an earth elemental, a fire elemental, or a water elemental. When you transform into an elemental form, the CR for this form can be no higher than your druid level divided by three, rounded down.

You may choose to transform into any sort of elemental by expending both uses of your wild shape, so long as the CR is no higher than one third of your druid level, rounded down.

    Elemental Protection

Starting at 14th level, you may gain a number or temporary hit points whenever your Elemental Resistance protects you from damage. The number of temporary hit points you gain is equal to half the damage your Elemental Resistance protected you from. You may choose to gain these temporary hit points yourself, or you may use a bonus action to give them to a creature you can see within 30 feet of you. This feature may be used a number of times per day equal to your Wisdom modifier (minimum of once). You regain all uses of this feature once you finish a long rest.
