The Spiral Moongate

There are two moons on the world in which Omnusat Island is located. Gerasimul and Nestorus.   There exists upon Gerasimul a sect of powerful sorcerors. A permanent passage between the surface of the moon and the island of Omnusat existed for many years: allowing trade and travel between the two distant surfaces. The gateway which connects their settlement to the island of Omnusat became inactive when The Death of Magic occured, but when Gerasimul gleams fully in the night and Nestorus wanes into the darkness the connection between the two places can be ignited once again.   In the place where Standing Stones form a spiral in the central plains of Jymlünd (Region) there was once a portal and is no more. A few times a year a series of celestial events happens: Gerasimul is at the peak of light (Full Moon) in its lunar cycle, and Nestorus is at its peak of darkness (New Moon).   Those of the sect who were on Omnusat and lost their magical powers still retain their knowledge, while their brethren on the surface of Gerasimul maintain their power. This cult has been known to engage in the festival of the Spiral moongate from time to time.
    The Ritual of Opening
  • Various herbs and incense are burned to 'open the mystical channels', "The fog of mystical smoke from the censers shall be walked along the lines of ancient sorcery" - the patterns of this ritual are passed down in families of Sorcerors, though a handful of written accounts exist tucked away in secret libraries.
  •
  • Blood sacrifice is needed to fuel the ancient mechanisms of the portal: the magic is thirsty for the lifeblood it has been missing. This can be as easy as a half-dozen cultists slicing open their hands and offering some of their lifeblood in tandem, or as hard as dragging an unwilling sacrifice from point to point. The quantity of blood remains the same, but it must be from (a) living donor(s).
  •
  • The final step of the ritual is sprinkling of a pouchful of powdered Onyx in the center of the spiral, to open the gateway. This gemstone is the focus of the ancient spells which remain in place, and is essentially the 'spark' that ignites the 'flame' of the portal.
  •
  • The portal remains open for three nights and closes as the suns rays come across the standing stones at sunrise. It reopens as the suns last rays sink beneath the horizon at Sunset.
