Tuyaarugn

Structure

The head of the Tuyaarugn religion is the Yurdukagabuyut, which means priest of high priests. This primary leader is elected by a council of the top Agabuyuts, or priests, coming from all of the main religious districts of χaya. The highest Agabuyuts are known for their poetic ability to write verses and scripture that would captivate audiences. The Uotagabuyut, or fire priests, are generally important within the hierarchy as they are the keeper of the elaborate fire rituals. They are also known as the keepers of fire, as they maintain the holy fires in temples and religious grounds.    The Ar are a more controversial sect of priests, often known for their political machinations. They are purported to be occult or magical in nature, having divine powers that allow them to interpret dreams and see futures. They often have the ear of important leaders.    The Namgabuyut are the low priests, the most numerous class. They perform many of the menial tasks and community organization. Their roles vary greatly depending on what is needed, from acting as servants to the upper echelons of Tuyaarugn hierarchy to reciting literature, to keeping holy sites well-maintained.

Culture

The main tenet of Tuyaarugn is that one must do good. This has been interpreted as doing good, not so that one may be recognized or gain, but for the sake of being good. A noluok, or tax, of 7% of yearly income is expected from all members of the religion that must go to those most in need in their society. Beyond that, this tenet is expected to be practiced in day-to-day life. Religion is expected to permeate all aspects of life, and not just be confined to religious activities or texts.    No follower is allowed to work against the interests of another follower. It is forbidden to speak ill, or without the benefit of another follower. As Tuyaara provides goodness to all of his creations without expectations of reciprocity, the followers of Tuyaarugn are expected to do the same.   Tuyaarists are inherently insular, as it is forbidden to force opinions on others. This has been interpreted as meaning proselytization is neither expected nor allowed. All followers are expected to respect freedom of conscience. However, the spreading of scripture and sermon to non-followers is allowed in non-forceful manners.    Your own welfare is considered secondary to your community and those around you. Sacrifice is expected if it will help the welfare of others. This is expected for all, not just followers of Tuyaargun. Greed is considered one of the worst aspects someone can have, and charity and openness are one of the greatest. Those who improve the lives of the most people are considered the greatest contributers to society.

Public Agenda

The Tuyaarugn establishment have few goals or motivations outside of pursuing the tenets of the religion within χaya. As proselytization is forbidden, little is done to spread their religion. The church instead focusses on providing for the community and ensuring they are a prominent part of daily life for all their Mu followers. They have no real competition for religious ideas, and their firm place in society has created little need for vast aspirations.

Assets

The Tuyaarugns have vast assets, as they have played an important role in Mu society for over a millennium. They have vast temples and ownership of great tracts of land that are generally allowed for public use. Their beneficial relationship with the government has allowed them to prosper. While their wealth is great, much of it is used for the betterment of the community as they create large places of gathering, for refuge, food, worship, and enjoyment.

History

The religion originated from the prophet Mun'aan, with many values taken from the existing disorganized religions of his time. He claimed a special connection with a singular God, known as Tuyaara. Fighting back against what he saw as the excessive greed of the ruling class at the time, Mun'aan spread an easily digestible message that to create a successful society, everyone must work for the good of others. Those who collected wealth for their own gain and at the exploitation of others were derided and exposed as greedy fraudsters who only cared to improve themselves.   Mun'aan's message was quickly accepted, and his teachings spread as many Mu saw the religion as a way out of their poor situations. The large number of individuals who had lost hope or were disillusioned with their lot in life found a new purpose and were quick to join ranks and accept the teachings of Mun'aan.   The conversion of Ununhan in 688 BE is seen as the point where the religion became the official state religion, and rapidly increased its influence on rule and society as a whole.

Mythology & Lore

Tuyaana is seen as a God that represents truth and light. He is a force that works against darkness and lies, which are controlled by the powerful immortal spirit Kuhagan, bringer of evil and destruction.   In the early days of the Mu, they were disorganized and impulsive. Fights and raids were frequent against neighbour, and Kuhagan would keep gaining power from this, lessening the impact of Tuyaana. As Kuhagan began to win its fight against Tuyaana, spreading sin and misery in the world, Tuyaana sent his six spirits to Malplenan to create peace. Eren, Tarta, Yerbut, Eyee, Kask, and Atas went to the six settlements of the Mu, and convinced the leaders to attend a summit, where Tuyaana appeared and told the sinful leaders that they were helping nobody by spreading destruction and that a life of peace would create greater fulfillment. The events that followed are unknown, but this is generally considered the creation of χaya. The story was lost for hundreds of years, as written language was yet to exist.

Cosmological Views

Tuyaana is seen as the creator of everything. No date or explanation is given, but it is accepted that Tuyaana created Malplena and all of its creatures.

Tenets of Faith

All followers believe in one God that is responsible for all good in the universe.   Everyone is expected to follow the path of God by creating and doing good at any chance they get.    All Mu are judged after death on if they have done good, to determine if they will enter paradise, or spend eternity in a fiery hell.    Light and fire are seen as particular holy elements that must be respected. When the sun is shrouded work must stop, unless light can be provided.   The elements of the earth are air, water, earth, and fire. Fire is the holiest of the four elements, but the other three holds near equal importance. They are not to be disturbed unless absolutely necessary.    Adultery is strictly forbidden, and marriage is expected prior to any coupling.    Speaking ill or thinking poor thoughts at religious sites is strictly forbidden.   One must respect the freedom of conscience of all beings. Prostylization is forbidden. Conversion is unnecessary, as those who are righteous of any faith are welcome in paradise. Convincing others to do good is permitted, just not under coercive religious pretexts.   Bodies are not to be buried, burned, nor put to sea. Rather, rocks should be placed over bodies until decomposition occurs.    For those who can afford it, 7% of all earnings are expected to go to charity of the donator's choice.

Worship

Worship is done through acts of charity and self-sacrifice when one does not expect personal gain to come from it. Temples and religious sites exist for worship and contemplation, as well as priestly training, but people attend as they see fit. Scripture readings are frequently attended, and followers are expected to attend, but there is no compulsion.    All temples and religious sites must remain light at all times. Thus certain priests, the Uotagabuyut, maintain fire inside and outside holy buildings. Three times a year a holy fire ritual takes place during which all followers are expected to cleanse themselves with fire, by flying through a great eternal flame. Those that cannot make the journey due to age, health, or wealth are exempt.
