The plant is toxic to all intelligent races and livestock. Improperly handling the plant can cause blisters. While the seeds are edible they have limited function. The plant is largely used for its fibers and can be made into a strong rope through weaving. The relative abundance of the plant makes it ideal for working with. 
The plant has also been used medicinally as a mild sedative in small quantities. Its use is not frequent due to its toxicity causing some side effects, such as nausea.
