Qilin Mao (Kee-lin (or Kee-rin) Mouw)
The Qilin Mao is the legendary protector of the Tabaxi clans. Appearing in a number of legends, works of art, and religious rites, it is sometimes viewed as an avatar of Ajix or Lun Weia themselves. It is depicted as a long golden serpent with a feline face. Its face is surrounded by a mane of sparkling hair from which sprout two deep red colored antlers. In the tales in which it is featured it has many magical abilities and can fly through the air but it also possess four strong leonine legs that allow it to run at great speeds along the ground.
The Qilin Mao is featured in many tabaxi stories and fables including, “The Most Lamentable Triumph of the Glorious Qilin Mao against the serpents of the Ka Xiyi.” In this tale, the Qilin Mao protects the tabaxi clans of Goshima by leading them safely off of the island and destroying the Lizard King.
