Journeau

Nestled above Elwillow forest and below the Veil, Journeau is several villages that have stapled themselves together to become a proper town. Originally a fishing village, a farmers collective and a small tradepost, the three settlements expanded until they were eventually touching. Just over fifty years ago, most people in Journeau moved from the outskirts that were the three villages, and built up the town proper in the middle.    Journeau is home to the Journeau Conclave the huntsmen and guards that are tasked with preventing the Deadmarn from reaching Journeau and keeping the Elwillow travellable. Over time, the Conclave as somewhat taken over the government of Journeau through popular vote, whoever is Huntsmaster tends to also be voted as Governer because they are the person keeping Journeau safe. Some people are vocal about their displeasure in the militant policies this sometimes results in, but they are the minority in the town.    Many visitors to Journeau are looking to spend an evening at the Salty Selkie, the tavern built out the half-sunk mayor's house of the previous fishing village. It's a popular haunt of the students of Val Academique, who are looking to get absolutely blasted. Other patrons are sometimes trying to get stories out of the eponymous Selkie, Lidiana who serves on the mostly underwater basement floor. Don't touch the horses by the back, you'll need to cut off your hand.    The primary population of Journeau is a healthy mix of Elves, Humans and Halflings, though, like all places in Maladase, there are representatives of every race and nobody is really going to get more than a sideways glance no matter what race they are.
