Makkah Nation

The Makkah Nation is the product of a peace treaty between all the tribes living in the grasslands. They are united in their shared religion of worshiping the High Spirits and shared hatred of the mountain tribe.   The Makkah spirit binders are a critically important reason the Makkah Nation was both founded and has stayed together for so long.

Structure

Tribes are made up of bands, small groups or families that travel or farm together and share the same traditions and language of the other bands in their tribe. Tribes are ruled by a chief and council of elders, and larger bands may have a chief or small council. Inter-tribal relations can be tricky, with old grudges and differing customs often flaring up between bands of different tribes. Tribes are allowed to have small raids against another, but declaring open war against another tribe would mean leaving the Makkah Nation and the protection of spirit binders, so that hasn't happened for many, many cycles.   The Spirit Binder organization is the link holding the Makkah Nation together--without it, the peace treaty would fall apart in moonturns and all of the grassland tribes would be at war with another.

Public Agenda

Be united against attacks of the mountain tribe and no-heartbeat creatures.

Assets

The Makkah Nation has the collective resources and numbers of all grassland tribes. Most of this is fed into supporting the Makkah Spirit Binders, though that is a self-sufficient system.

Demography and Population

The Makkah Nation is made up of all the tribes in the grasslands.

Territories

The Makkah Nation occupies all grasslands on the continent.

Military

Each band has warriors, braves who train is basic fighting and horseback formations. The Nation's main fighting force is the Spirit Binders.

Religion

Every tribe in the Makkah Nation worship the High Spirits, though some also worship the Great Spirit as the original creator of the world, who the High Spirits came from. They recognize that the Great Spirit passed their power and authority to the High Spirit Council.

Foreign Relations

The Makkah Nation is at open war with the mountain tribe and is unfriendly with the Badlands tribe.   In recent cycles contact has been made with a foreign people who come in canoes from the south sea. They're friendly and trade huge, exotic fish with bands who fish along the south sea.

Agriculture & Industry

Agriculture is centered in the east grasslands, where more steady rainfall and less threats of no-heartbeat creatures allow tribes to settle in semi-permanent farms, raise crops for a handful of cycles, then move to a new spot. These settlements primarily grow beans, squash, and corn, which is traded to west-grassland tribes in exchange for buffalo meat and hides.

Trade & Transport

Trade is widespread and common, often done in competitions during summer gatherings between tribes.   Horseback is one of the fastest and most common traveling methods. Canoes and bullboats can go faster in rivers, but only going from west to east and if the waters are 1) unfrozen and 2) safe.

Education

People are taught within their bands--hunting, clothes and tools making, languages, the customs of their tribe, about the peace treaty and Makkah Nation, how to worship High Spirits, about their enemies in the west mountains, all the things.
