Kagonite
A black metallic mineral, Kagonite is light as wood, yet ten times harder than steel. Kagonite is what gives the Darklords troop's weapons their oilyblack appearance. Kagonite occurs naturally in the Darklands, and is mined by many cities and remote mining villages. Often, the mining of Kagonite is carried out by slaves that eventually fall ill and succumb to death. Some believe this is due to the nature of unrefined Kagonite, but given the normal living conditions of slaves in the Darklands, the connection is suspect.
History & Usage
History
Refinement
Entire villages in the Darklands are dedicated to the processing and refinement of Kagonite. In these villages, the ore is smelted and removed from any impurities. The leftover slag is disposed of close to the villages. Life in these locations is shorter, and the smell of smoke fills the air.

Trade & Market
Kagonite is traded outside of the Darklands only under very auspicious conditions. Nations of the Freelands Alliance eschew its sale in open markets. Kagonite's reputation for causing long-term sickness tends to diminish its value in black markets.
