Eshnar

Eshnar is the last large town on the eastern edges of Sommerlund. The large town is surrounded by a wall on all sides, and maintains both large farms and wells within its walls. It borders against the Wildlands and Maakenmire Swamp, so the town militia regularly deals wiath Szall, Giak subraces and monsters crawling out of the Maakenmire Swamp.

Industry & Trade

Historically, the fortunes of Eshnar have varied depending on the level of security in the city, to combat the frequent attacks from the bandits and creatures of the Wildlands and Maakenmire Swamp, such as its location. Eshnar's greatest fortunes were during the Great Ruanon Gold Rush, where it was able to operate as a satellite mining town for miners and gold panners, and secondarily when the Venn Veda trade route was open and safe to Kadan. During the Second Vassa-Sommlending War, Eshnar's fortunes fell dramatically, as it was destroyed by Vassagonia, and hastily rebuilt.

History

Eshnar, established in MS 3808, defended against the bandits on Ruanon's east side. However, attacks became so frequent, King Frey II forbade all travel in MS 4221, and Eshnar was placed under a command of a Sheriff, a unique Sommlending rank.

During the events of The Chasm of Doom, Eshnar was captured by Vassagonian bandits preying on travellers.

Geography

Eshnar lies on the Venn Veda, 40 miles east of where this highway meets the Ruanon Path, a north-south road between Moytura and Ruanon Town. It is located north of the Maaken Range and the Maakenmire Swamp, and south of the Wildlands. For travellers heading east, it is the last safest place of note before reaching beyond Venn's Bridge in Cloeasia, with Mudmoor and Temel barely qualifying as settlements due to their isolation.
