The Inbetween
The span amid worlds; (noun)
The Inbetween is the name given to the interval between worlds or realms. It is not a material plane, and it seems that time and space function differently there. Very little is known about the Inbetween as no living being can exist there, however some creatures have ways of using the Inbetween to move from one world to another. In some cases, such as in Fae, it is an inate ability, but others developed magic or technologies that allowed such travel. In general, travel through the Inbetween is considered very dangerous, because any mistake or miscalulation that leaves the traveller within the Inbetween means death.
The Fae phantom are the only known species that can remain in the Inbetween for plononged periods of time. They are a chosen guard, charged with monitoring inter-world movement and quite literaly dedicate their life to this position since taking the job requires that they become undead. Fae phantom have been researching the Inbetween for centuries, but are very guarded with the information they gather, for obvious reasons.
