Magical Girls

Basic Information

Anatomy

Homo Sapiens Magicis retains the same basic anatomy, skeletal, and muscular structures as the Female members of the parent species Homo Sapiens.   Despite near identical form, the bones of Homo Sapiens Magicis are substantially stronger than those of Homo Sapiens, and more capable of healing from fractures, in the unlikely event they should occur.   Similarly, Homo Sapiens Magicis possess far greater muscular density, with tissues that are stronger, more efficient, and less prone to atrophy. As a result, members of this species are faster, stronger, and more resilient, to degrees considered fantastical by Homo Sapiens.   In form rather than just function, members of Homo Sapiens Magicis differ from their parent species in one regard. Located in the Brainstem and Spinalcord (At T3 thoracic and L4 lumbar vertebrae) are 2mm diameter balls of titanium-coated beryllium bronze. Referred to as 'Anchors', they are the source of both enhanced mundane physical abilities as well as fantastical abilities possessed by Homo Sapiens Magicis.

Biological Traits

Anchors-
  • Magical girls’ “souls” are located in a personal pocket dimension and control their bodies through “anchors”, 2mm diameter balls of titanium-coated beryllium bronze implanted in the brainstem, and in the spinal cord at the T3 thoracic and L4 lumbar vertebrae.
  •
  • Anchors are engraved with sigils at an atomic scale - these are theorised to be way that a magical girl’s anchors and soul connect.
  •
  • Loss of an anchor will cripple or kill most magical girls.
  •
  • Damage to an anchor often results in control issues that manifest as seizures, temporary paralysis, or outright loss-of-consciousness. A damaged anchor is usually enough to cause a magical girl to be removed from any active combat duties.
  •
  • Magical girls can otherwise recover from most injuries; it can be exceptionally difficult to "kill" a magical girl - even then, the death of the physical body has little immediate effect on the “soul” past the loss of the physical body - the isolation will eventually have effects on the magical girl’s consciousness.

Genetics and Reproduction

Homo Sapiens Magicis have a varied and complex Genetic makeup, related and often near-identical to humans, with somewhat unpredictable variances (In particular as an inidviduals 'Magic' may cause bespoke changes), with the variation being particularly notable in members of the species who are Born rather than Ascending.   The first members of Homo Sapiens Magicis are known to have originally been members of Homo Sapiens, who by some unknown manner, evolved and ascended to the inherently supernatural Homo Sapiens Magicis. Also unknown is the reasoning for an absolute lack of Male members of the species, as all Homo Sapiens to ever Ascend have been Female. Researchers do note that there are technically two sexes in the species, as members of Homo Sapiens born apparently Male but whom possess the Gender Identity of Female can also Ascend in this evolution, and in some cases, even those who hold an Identity outside the Binary. However, this remains a technicality for two reasons;   Firstly, as the process of this rapid evolution in congruence with the timing in the Homo Sapiens development it occurs, reduces the Sexual Dimorphism rate to less than a single percent.   Secondly, as the process of Reproduction in Homo Sapiens Magicis does not require Male members. While the Fertility Rate of partners involving a Transitioned Magicis are notably higher than without, it remains entirely possible for two members with the same apparent reproductive biology to conceive offspring. Infact, this possibility remains even if both partners are Transitioned Magicis, despite this making even less sense compared to the biology of Homo Sapiens they evolved from.   This reduces the difference in Reproductive Anatomy to the equivalent station of a mild mutation to increase fertility, and as a result, Homo Sapiens Magicis are not considered to be Sexually Dimorphic at all, and all members are officially classified as Female or X (None/Other).     In terms of the product of Reproduction, Homo Sapiens Magicis differs substantially from Homo Sapiens further.   In Homo Sapiens, the probability of a Male or Female Offspring is approximately 50% for either, and a 100% chance of that offspring being Homo Sapiens.   If one of the reproductive partners is Homo Sapiens Magicis, however, the probability of Male or Female offspring becomes approximately 33.3% and 66.7% respectviely. Furthermore, the probability the offspring is Homo Sapiens drops to 83.5%, with a 16.5% probability of the child being Homo Sapiens Magicis. This means that in the event of a Female child from a mating pair with one Homo Sapiens and one Homo Sapiens Magicis, there is a probability of 25% that the child will be Homo Sapiens Magicis.   If both reproductive partners are Homo Sapiens Magicis, the probability of a Male or Female offspring is, bewilderingly, 20% and 80% respectviely. The probability of the offspring being Homo Sapiens Magicis is 50%, meaning there is a 62.5% chance of a Female offspring being Homo Sapiens Magicis, and 50% of the offspring being a different species (Homo Sapiens) entirely. Of the Male offspring, 100% will experience some level of Androgen Insensitivty Syndrome, with 75% of these being only Partial and 25% being Total. Additionally, half of all Male Apparent offspring will be Transgender, meaning the chance of a truly Male offspring is only 10%.     Curiously, born Homo Sapiens Magicis, ontop of being possible, are virtually identical to evolved and Ascended members, including being born with Anchors. It is unknown how the development of these Anchors in fetal growth occurs, though born members are almost universally weaker than Ascended members, particularly when it comes to Magical ability.

Growth Rate & Stages

Homo Sapiens Magicis have an almost completely identical aging rate and development stages as those of Homo Sapiens, with two notable differences.   Firstly, while Homo Sapiens Magicis (Mostly) age at the same rate, their lifespans with modern medicine average at 200+ years. Meaning, simply, that they not only live far longer but remain capable, functional individuals for longer despite age.   Secondly, some members of Homo Sapiens Magicis possess Magic which may halt or significantly slow their aging. These individuals will have lifespans considered fantastical even to other members of their species, with some even being believed to be outright immortal.

Ecology and Habitats

Homo Sapiens Magicis are virtually identical to Homo Sapiens with regards to Ecology and Habitat, with again, two notable exceptions.   Firstly, Homo Sapiens Magicis have a greater mundane ability to survive and adapt extreme conditions, making such biomes more hospitable to them.   Secondly, the variable plethora of Magic that members of Homo Sapiens Magicis possess allows some to interact with and manipulate their enviroment in ways difficult or outright impossible to humans.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Homo Sapiens Magicis are, once more, virtually identical to humans in Dietary behaviors. The largest differences being found in the options provided by Magic in gathering and preparing food, and the occassional individual who simply does not need it thanks to Magic.   They are otherwise identical to Homo Sapiens in practices, from their daily requirements to variety in personal preference.

Biological Cycle

Homo Sapiens Magicis exhibit no notable differences to Homo Sapiens in regards to biological cycles, though individuals may have vastly difference responses based on the nature of their Magic.

Behaviour

Homo Sapiens Magicis exhibit no substantial differences in their Psychology from Homo Sapiens. In specific cases, the particular Magic one posseses may cause substantial deviations, though there is no evidence to support any broad, general differences in psychology between these populations.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Homo Sapiens Magicis exhibit superior base sensory capabilities compared to those of Homo Sapiens. This includes: Hearing, Sight, Smell, Taste, Touch; as well as proprioception, and a more robust immune input response, advancing the subsconsious knowledge of the body's health by the brain of Homo Sapiens to a conscious one by Homo Sapiens Magicis, enabling the brain to take a more direct and active role in health.   Homo Sapiens Magicis further posess a vast and varied array of Extrasensory capabilities, Magic, which varies from individual to individual in its potency, flexibility, and form. These capabilities enabling the members of the species to perform acts of Impossibility, such as flight without propulsion, the manipulation of energy, and even violation of supreme scientific laws, among a seemingly infinite number of other possibilities.
