Magocracy of Prussia
The Magocracy of Prussia was formed five years after the Prussian Homage. When Albert Hohenzollern disbanded the Teutonic Order and became Duke of Prussia, Prussia entered a period of change. Most of the members of the order started to be considered nobility. They needed to find new sources of income for themselves. Mages found a shortcut by using magic. In just a few years mages became one of the most people in Prussia. They saw that Prussia wasn't looking good and needs help. Mages started to use their powers to strenghten the Duchy, but it wasn't enough. They realized that the problem lied with the Duke. Mages used their influence to pressure him into reforms. As a result the Duke stepped down letting the mages to seize power. As the whole country depended on them to make everything better nobody was opposing them. In 1530 the mages proclaimed the Magocracy. This sudden change of government in Prussia alerted the Polish King and he demanded that the mages return the power to Albert. Mages knew that in the current situation Prussia had no chance in a war against Poland so they sat down to negations with Poland. The result was that mages remained in power, but paid homage to Poland.
In the 19th century the Magocracy played a crucial role in the unificiation of Germany and formation of the German Empire. The last Mage-Duke, Otto von Bismarck, is considered the unifier of Germany.
Territories
For the most of its existence the Magocracy controlled of the territory of East Prussia on the southeastern coast of the Baltic Sea. It inherited these lands from the Teutonic Order after it was disbanded at the Prussian Homage. After the Partitions of Poland it also controlled the so-called Royal or West Prussia, a region which encompassed such cities like Gdańsk, Toruń or Olsztyn.
In the 19th century the Magocracy took control of the lands of Brandenburg. That made it one of the most powerful German states.
