Session 5: Terminus Station (Pt. I)

General Summary

The party attempt to, to quote Val, "get off", only for Karida to exitus interruptus and ask who was on duty the night before. Val admits to being on the bridge, but when dragged aside by Karida, denies hearing anything. As the party dawdle, Karida gets approached by a menacing looking halfling, whom he follows back towards another ship. Gal and Kriskain try to sneak after them, but Gal gets caught up in their own tail when attempting a commando roll, and they're heard. Karida uses the opportunity to approach them, gesturing for them to pipe down with their accusations, until he's close enough to tell a keen-eared Kriskain that the halfling has a knife.
Thus begins a truly terrible rescue attempt, where Gal and Kriskain try to act the part of thugs and "kidnap" Karida, but can't seem to look the slightest bit competent or intimidating. Val and Lomion reluctantly decide to intervene, making between them, a truly terrifying pair and scaring the halfling, who is promptly captured by Kriskain's beefy orc muscles. Everyone beats a hasty retreat to the ship to get some explanations and make a plan.
The halfling squirms free of Kriskain, only to get nabbed by Gal instead. Lomion puts the halfling in the world's best bondage, and Karida retreats to heavy snark as the party question him, determining in quick succession that he's on the run from his dad, who is here on Terminus, and who definitely wants to kill him. He explains that he needs to get to the other docked GSC ship, where his dad won't be able to target him without making a scene, and also so Oroton won't find out he's using the GSC as a hiding place. The party come up with a plan to continue their gang ruse and carry him across the station.
Karida summons himself a fashionable hood for the party to stick over his head, using his fashion magic. Val stays behind to guard the halfling while the others carry Karida to the GSC ship, on the exact opposite side of the station, picking up a station map on the way. Gal gets distracted by a store called Stumbleduckie, but can't see what's in it. Karida safely boards the ship, and the guards' reaction implies that GSC Intelligence Officers get in some weird, weird situations.
The party return to find Val reorganising the library, having let the halfling go to cause more havoc. She gives up on conquering the library, and the party head back down the tunnel connecting the docking ring to the main station. Halfway down, Lomion discovers the entrance to the service tunnels, and smoothly reveals them. Despite Kriskain's misgivings, the party investigate, finding the store rooms for what looks to be the newsagents. While Kriskain argues with Val about stealing a newspaper (the Poyais Post), Lomion reads the Phantasos Epitaph, and finds a bunch of typical articles about gang violence and politics, plus an epitaph for an elf wizard "gone before her time". Also, the Buffholders beat the Ab-oleths at lineball.
The party move on and find a vending machine, which Lomion immediately raids for snacks and health potions. Val notices the security crystal and tries and fails to throw rocks at it. Lomion is unrepentant.
Val opens the next door along, which opens into the kitchen of a café. She's not spotted, but she accidentally slams the door on the way out, so the party is discovered and scolded by a barista. They apologise, fake back, and then move on anyway, despite Kriskain's increasing discomfort.
At the end of the service corridor, they find a large raised circle, which everyone but Gal identify as a teleportation circle. Lomion, the only person in the party to fucking read signs, barely stops everyone stepping onto it. He points out the sign which states that there's a one in 96 chance of ending up in empty space. The party immediately back off, and also suddenly remember the halfling. Val reveals she'd let the halfling go. With the service tunnel at a dead end, the party return to the public areas and go shopping.
Stumbleduckie is revealed to be a childrens' clothing store. Gal buys baby gnome pajamas printed like a space suit. Kriskain finally replaces the chain for her amulet. Val and Lomion try to run a scam on Scam Likely, but are foiled by a simple security device.
