Druid’s Snare

Druid's Snare is a carnivorus tree, that grows in Druidswood.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Druid Snare have stout trunks that grow to be over ten feet tall, and a branching spread of branches, which dangles vine-like leaves at head level.

Genetics and Reproduction

The tree reproduces by sending up runner shoots that grow through the body of the victim. Young stems of new trees, are often reddish.

Growth Rate & Stages

A Sapling grows from within the body of the human, often while they are still alive, and eventually the root growth suffocates them. They will begin to decompose and create an envirnment for fungi and lichen, while also being encased in a woody exterior while the plant grows upward. When they reach maturaty, after about five years, they begin to develope hunting foliage, and hanging leaves.

Ecology and Habitats

They like moist areas, with little wind, and thrive among lichen and fungi in nutrient rich soil. They tend to grow in clumps in the forest, rather than single trees. They like soil that's high in calcium.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Like most trees, they absorb sunlight through photosynthasis and water as well. They only need to hunt in order to reproduce, which they do year round.

Biological Cycle

They don't shed hunting leaves during the winter, but leave them out, shedding only their decidous leaves.

Additional Information

Uses, Products & Exploitation

In some Druid Circles, feeding their dead to the Snares was a method of burial, as well as a way to give back to nature. After laying the body on the ground, the hunting snare is triggered. The Druids, due to their short height, can navigate the area better than humans while avoiding the venom. Some even harvested the leaves after coating their hands in clay to dull the effects. Then, they use the leaves to make a paralyzing poisen. The wood too, is beleived to hold qualities of the humans they grew from, and is called Memory Wood.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

The leaves of the tree are highly sensitive, and and send signals down the trunk when they've been hit.

Symbiotic and Parasitic organisms

They have symbiotic relationships with several species, including small carnavores that like to make dens in the area and scavange victoms of the snare. There's a veriety of mushroom, which thrives from growing in the brain tissue of the victim and growing from the eyes, nose and mouth.
