Lalm

A founding species of the Conglomerate, lalm are avians from the planet Dharita. Lalm have a hyperactive metabolism, they live like humans in fast forward – they move fast, think fast, talk fast, and die fast. Because of the way their brains work, lalm never developed small talk. They often fumble social interactions with other species. Their language is hard to translate, one word can convey an entire sentence of information, and don’t include articles and demonstratives. Regardless of this hindrance lalm have an incredible aptitude for science, learning, and critical thinking. When civilization first popped up the ‘fittest’ became the most intelligent, a massive female-heavy sex disparity formed.
The lalm skeleton is lightweight and was previously optimized for flight, but has evolved for their new ground-dwelling lifestyle. Lalm have short beaks with no lips, so their languages never developed labial sounds like most other languages did. They still have feathers despite not flying for thousands of years, with the feathers on their arms being especially long. Lalm evolved sonar echolocation when they could fly, and their eyes are sensitive to dim light for hunting prey at night. Lalm females incept eggs in the 9th earth-year of their lives and lay them in the 10th, then never again. Eggs that are unfertilized before being laid will hatch female, and fertilized eggs will hatch male. Lalm grow relatively fast. They can walk and talk fluently by the end of the first earth-year of their lives. By the eighth year of their lives, they are considered adult. At 15 years they begin decaying, and 17 they're considered elder.
Dharita, their homeworld, is most known for its lush jungles and tall, extensive mountain ranges. Lalm thrive in these places where prey is abundant and easy to find, since they eat many small meals over the day rather than few large meals.
