Ami Psalma: A singing Desert By Koraki S. Kanosis

Introduction

The Ami Psalma is a dry dune scape located in the rain shadow of the DrastinFell and the edge of the Aldranari Volcanoes. This desert is named Ami Psalma for the chanting and singing heard coming from the sands. Many a myth surrounded these songs claiming mundane like the wind to supernatural like foul spirits haunted the desert.

The truth is that Ami Psalma is the home of what many a Gaian call the "desert siren." The land is nearly inhospitable as water is near non existent.

Geography

A dry desert with blistering hot winds and tall sand dunes. Averages 2.4 inches of rainfall in a Gaian year. The DrastinFell are gorgeous sandstone mountains in the region. In parts toward the Aldranari volcanos you can see extinct volcano craters and climb ancient lava flows.

Ecosystem

With the harsh dryness many plants have found a way to store water and protect those stores. Like on gaia these plants have spikes or barbs. The few animals hunt during the night or cool hours of the evening and morning.

Ecosystem Cycles

During warm months it is dry and hot. During the cooler season Ami Psalma may experience flash flooding and heavy rains which may make up it's entire rainfall for that Gaian year.

Localized Phenomena

In the spring and summer months tourists who get too lost claim they had heard the rocks and sand "chant" to them and guide them home. On the rare occasion a lost tourist is not found and we are unable to recover their body. It has made many believe the dunes are haunted.

History

The Ancient ones all once lived in a ruin near modern AsunaTuuli but when they were attacked the survivors fled. The Lady of Song, Diapsalma, was the first of these ancient ones to find Ami Psalma.
