lizardfolk
"The greatest honor a lizard man can bestow on you is his trust. If you want friendship, get a dog."
Lizardfolk are reptilian humanoids that dwell in tightly-knit villages in marshes and swamps. While they are uninterested in conquest or expanding into civilized areas, their pride and combat prowess makes them ferocious warriors, and their habit of feeding on the corpses of friend and foe alike cements their reputation as backwater savages.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Lizardfolks are muscular bipeds standing 6 to 7 feet tall and covered in green, gray, or brown scales. Some tribes of lizardfolk have dorsal spikes or brilliantly-colored frills, and their powerful 4-foot-long tail allows them to swim through the water as easily as a crocodile.
Civilization and Culture
Major Language Groups and Dialects
Lizardfolk speak their own language, which seems to have derived in equal parts from Sibilant and Draconic.
History
Lizardfolk have been around since the Age of Scales, even before humans ever achieved sapience. They have a rich oral history that tells of heroes, battles, and the rise and fall of entire tribes.
Interspecies Relations and Assumptions
Between their ferocity in battle, their general disdain for civilization, and their general lack of taboos against eating the flesh of sapients, lizardfolk tend to repel other humanoids. Given that their own slower reproduction rate means they would be hard-pressed to compete with sheer numbers, and their observation that the warm-blooded rates do not seem to value the glory of battle, this situation suits the lizardfilk just fine.
