Treatment of the Dead

Every culture in the world treats their dead slightly differently, as well as where they go.   Ceglait: The dead in ceglait are almost always burned, as burying people in the snow laden lands can be difficult. These funerals involve pyres and offerings burned alongside them that depend on where the dead is believed to be going. Warriors are burned alongside armor, shields and weapons so that they may be armed when they stand before Hrun to battle endlessly in his realm. Those who renounce war for peace or quiet are burned with plants, food and tools so that they can find a new life in the endless fields of the ancestors.   Kostros: There are various methods of honoring the dead in Kostros. Many believe that Jira takes the souls of the faithful to her side, giving them everlasting peace and joy by her side. Those who do not follow Jira but are not seen as bad or sinful are believed to simply go to an afterlife of neutrality, where they wander and live alone for eternity. And finally those who are seen as sinners or heretics are believed to burn eternally under the intense light of Jira, stomped under her armored feet as she marches to war. Just as well, the Green Kingdom believes those who die are simply returned to nature to regrow as flowers and trees.   Echil: All the dead go to the Queen of blood. Their bodies are exsanguinated and their blood used for rituals and prayers so their souls may arrive to their lordess ready to receive her blessings and if lucky, return as demons under her command.    Atria: The dead are interred in great tombs and crypts with their belongings, so they can serve the Great Serpent in the world beyond in his kingdom in the sands of the sky.   Ashua: The dead are buried, their souls said to re-atune to nature and become one with the world. It is believed the worst sin you can commit to the dead is to burn them or otherwise deny burying them, as this severs their ability to return to the world.   Akivan: The dead are buried and mourned before moving on. In a land so small and besieged, there is little time to mourn.    Esnen: The dead are interred in vertical graves built into the sides of their steppes, so that all can see and remember those who came before. They believe their ancestors never move on, instead watching over them forever and guiding their actions.   Cluana: The dead are consumed in great rituals to give the young strength. There is no after life to the Cluana tribes, instead the dead give power to the living so that they can fight and live better.
