Theme Reveal 1: Power
There are heightened elements of power throughout Luridity. Relationships always have power dynamics, and Luridity's short stories explore those dynamics in a myriad of different ways, whether fun or nsfw in nature. I do need to do work on the Galaxy behind the stories buuuuuut at the same time I hope there's a chance to write more about my characters for this prompt set. The other power-lines that run through the galaxy are no less intense: There's the burden of social tension between powerful and wealthy upperclass citizens and everyone else. There's the power of the conglomerates, both employee vs. employees AND the corporate overlords themselves, who own things and resources and control their use as well as the physical spaces people can go. There's the various engines and computer drives that make things go, power in the zoomiest of sorts. There's varying physical strengths among the sapient species of Luridity, and some even go the extra mile to 'power up' with cybernetics to make sure they're better, faster, stronger...sometimes at any cost. Aaaand there's the daily little bits of personal power that people take for themselves, little bits of control in a sometimes out-of-control dystopia. This is gonna be a fun list of prompts to tackle!Theme Reveal 2: Frontier
Much like Power, the Frontier theme is one that appears numerous times in Luridity. This is partially because the history of its people only goes back a handful of generations; each and every new technology, science, medical advancement, or cultural step forward is on the "cutting" or "bleeding" edge, and each and every speck of newly explored space marks the edge of a new frontier. Places aren't established so long ago as to have real roots--even in the highly technologically advanced places--so challenges abound. I'll hope to focus on the Euphorion characters and stories for this theme's prompts, since they'll be actively exploring new places...but there is every possibility I might be struck with inspiration for something new out at the front of the scientific or technological frontiers.Theme Reveal 3: Relics
This one is triiiicky for Luridity. The Ardalu are from outside the galaxy, so they have a past known to them, and probably some artifacts that I could scribble about--plus, they're old. Certainly there are some relics among their population. :D The Oracles have their massive crystal structure, which is a sort of relic, but I've already written about those. Hinata has her tarot cards, some of which are certainly relics from the multiverse, though where each deck appears from is a mystery, so I doubt I'll go down that path. Everyone else...well: the galaxy only goes back 3 generations thanks to the Collision, so things in their communities wouldn't be considered aged relics. Howeverrrr.......there could be NEW relics or items of power. There are plenty of places where ruins and scraps of technology have been accidentally left behind during reboots of the Galaxy by the Overlords, and the natural world has more or less been left alone. So I might be able to address remnants of ancient ecosystems or natural resources that explorers are finding, or tech discovered that an inventor works out and uses to make a modern version (much like Port Requiem, a derelict relic in space, was used as a blueprint to make more and better space ports). Ancient relics discovered that perhaps have been ascribed to the wrong use would be fun for sure. Finally, there could be FORGERIES, and a healthy black market for items that claim to be relics or from the past age, before the known 50 years of existence, perhaps attached to tales of metaphysical power, or manipulated to appear to do special impressive miracles or magic tricks. Another relic: computers. The Net has developed fast and general computing technology even faster, especially in Centralvest. So plenty of rigs and bots will be about that have become obsolete between one week and the next. "What, you haven't bought the new chip? You're still running your cybernetics on THAT old relic?" XDTheme Reveal 4: Communication
Woo! I love this, because I have a lot of pending articles centered around how information gets around the galaxy. But it's not just communication across great distances that can be written about in Luridity. Languages between species! Corporate lingo! Swear words! Rumors! Communication is how folks in any setting gain knowledge! I have a bunch of threads to pull that can all add some juice to the usual Luridity vibes. Communication as stored information, such as data streams or even physical books and letters, may get a general overview article. Miscommunication or lack of communication is a trend in romance that I'm not a fan of, because the manufactured drama would be resolved just fine if someone just uttered a sentence of explanation: What is a relationship if not a two way street of all kiiiiinds of communication? Body language, sure. Truth, white lies, secrets, love languages! dirty talk! pillow talk!, video chats, instant messages, voice calls, telepathy, interpreting another person's "Look". Problem solving in a partnership can't be done without open lines of some kind. So I'm hoping there's an opportunity to pluck a short story out of the Aethrel with communication off the sidelines and moved into the role of a critical plotline. Communication as a theme can also put a spotlight on the way communication is different between social classes or business structures, or even in different lines of work. The communication between a captain and the officers on the deck of the spaceship, the arrangements made between Galactic Security and the various bounty hunting outfits, the things people say at work to keep civil vs the way they talk about their bosses and coworkers in a place they aren't concerned with eavesdroppers, communication on social media or the Net vs. reality, and of course what heads out of the PR office versus what's really being talked about at each level of the many-linked chain in a conglomarate. Y'all, I'm more than feral now, I'm bouncing in my chair excited to get these ideas moving and shaped up into some super cool stuff. Let's do it!Summer Camp Creations
