Luquastran Calendar
The Luquastran Calendar is how time is kept across the Three Great Continents. It divides the year into thirteen months of twenty-eight days each, each month dividing into four seven-day weeks. The year ends with one additional day of feasting, which does not belong to any week or month. This calendar is observed in most places, however some exceptions exist.
Description
The calendar starts with its "Year Zero" on the moment of the Rend, when the world was separated from the divines and started belonging to mankind. Counting forward from this moment through the accurate timekeeping from the Divinium, the current year in the Luquastran Calendar is 4472. The year starts on the Winter Solstice, the first day of the first week of the first month. The months are defined through the movement of Luquastra's moon Enum, which takes twenty-eight days between full moons. This means that every year, all full moons occur on the same day of the month. These twenty-eight day blocks are divided into four weeks, giving a total of fifty-two weeks per year. The names of the months correspond to the Celestial words for the Thirteen Concepts of the faith of Amano. Starting at the Winter Solstice: they are as follows:- Gadsak, meaning clarity;
- Menessa, meaning impartiality;
- Beiga, meaning justice;
- Ziedu, meaning lawfulness;
- Sanas, meaning exemplarity;
- Basties, meaning observance;
- Aules, meaning fairness;
- Karstum, meaning persistence;
- Anova, meaning tradition;
- Devibas, meaning punctuality;
- Sarkana, meaning verity;
- Tigrie, meaning leadership;
- Lavaldi, meaning patience.
- Amanday, after Amano;
- Temday, after Tempus;
- Kelemday, after Kelemvor;
- Tyrday, after Tyr;
- Selday, after Selûne;
- Silvaday, after Silvanus;
- Chaunday, after Chauntea.
History
The calendar was created by the Church of Amano not long after their participation in the Divinium began. Through their timekeepers, they had kept accurate track of how much time had past since the Rend, and after collaborating with the Church of Selûne to chart the lunar cycle, they constructed a calendar fit for all uses. This calendar was then spread around the world by the Church of Amano and their allies, promoting it for use by local governments and individuals. Whereas it has seen widespread adoption and is currently the default calendar in most places, several factions use their own form of timekeeping. The dwarves of the Dwarven Kingdom of Starn often use the mythical foundation of the Ancient Dwarven Empire as their starting year: according to official Starnish sources, the current year there is instead 2812. Within the Ala'in Dominion, the entire calendar is largely ignored, due to their disdain for the moon and its goddess driving them to hate anything based on lunar cycles. They lack their own calendar, and simply refer to the seasons to tell time. On the border of the Faelands in Asmarea, timekeeping itself is discouraged, since many a person has been trapped by a fey scheme that turns people's desire for control and oversight against them.Luquastran Calendar
