Errol Dendrith

Errol Laurenson Dendrith is a member of the Council of Three, the ruling body of the City of Garlond, along with Guildmaster Markrag Chiptusk and Judge Rayne Blackwell. The senior member of the council, he succeeded his father Laurence Dendrith as both Captain of the Garlond Watch and holder of the Seat of the Warrior upon his death.

Biography

Dendrith was born within the City of Garlond to city hero Laurence Dendrith, the man responsible for turning the Garlond Watch from a paltry guard into a bulwark of an army. Dendrith's mother passed away young, leaving him to be raised by his father and his aides, as Laurence's position often kept him from taking care of his son. From a young age, Dendrith strived to follow in his father's footsteps, learning to wield the blade and training in the ranks of the Watch under his father's command. He fought in the defense of Garlond during the Zenith War, advancing to the rank of sergeant by the war's end.   After the war, he gained a reputation for being a strict enforcer of the law, abiding by its very letter and commanding those around him to do the same or suffer the consequences. After losing his hair at a young age, he earned the nickname 'the Bald Blade' - which was often used in a derogatory way by other members of the Watch, who often found the nepotistic stickler a pain to work with. As a Watchman, Dendrith frequently patrolled the city's poorer eastern districts to apprehend lawbreakers. While his methods were criticized, they proved effective, and he soon grew to be a lieutenant within the Watch.   When his father unexpectedly passed away, he raced to the Council to petition them to appoint him Captain in his father's stead, saying that the city needs stability. His dedication to the job and ability to put his grief aside so quickly for the better of the city convinced the other councilmembers to appoint him to both of his father's positions, and Errol Dendrith succeeded his father onto the Council of Three. This decision was initially perceived as unpopular within the city, but during his seventeen years of reigning, Dendrith has proven to be a factor for stability, and an unyielding champion of law and order.

Personality

Much like his father, Errol Dendrith is a dedicated Watchman and fearsome swordsman. He has great respect for law and the city's institutions, and stops at nothing to see the law upheld. His dedication can sometimes boil over into anger, as his ire, when earned, is not soon lost. He is also a gifted public speaker, able to assuage crowds easily. As the senior member of the Council of Three, the responsibility for holding national addresses befalls to him, and he navigates these speeches without any difficulty. On the council, he often butts heads with Judge Blackwell, whom he considers "too forgiving and sentimental".   As Captain of the Garlond Watch, he grew infamous for his habit to arrest even children, claiming that "they need to be taught young" and taking them to the Captain's Tower, where they'd often be held for a night. He has four children himself: Zara, Victoria, Laurence, and Harry. His second child Victoria trains under him at the barracks, as according to Dendrith himself, Victoria "shows immense potential as a fighter and defender of the law".   It is unknown whether Dendrith is an adherent of any faith, but he is a vocal opponent of the Five Scorned and their followers, and personally oversees any operations involving cracking down on worship of the dark divines.
