The Legend of the Widow and the Shining Mines.

There is a mine, to the north of Vidantis that holds the wealth and extravagance of the world. Deep in the earth there are Gems there the world has never witnessed, the sky has never seen and they are guarded by a restless and abandoned spirit. A spirit who searches for her lost husband. It is here that she pools her wealth and riches, her very tears are said to turn into diamonds as they fall to the ground.   These mines are known as the Shining Mines and many a traveller has gotten lost in its rubble and collapsed depths, never to return. The mines are now abandoned and left for the mountains after the faithful day that seen the end of the Vidantian Gems and Diamonds. The Widow now inhabits the place. Or so the legend goes:   Once, in the era of the Gods, Before the Pulse, there was a deep crag in one of the mines that threatened to cut to the very soul of the world. This is where the diamonds of the planet were mined. A dangerous but necessary task for the affluent people. One day, the ground rumbled and shook and collapsed, killing many men who could not escape the depths.   After a long day of work, all bodies of the miners were recovered, save one. A man strong and broad killed in his prime and recently married to the prettiest woman in Vidantis. The woman had long shining blue/ white hair falling down her shoulder, paler than usual skin and lips that were pretty. Her name was Glacia Garleya. Upon hearing of the cave-in Glacia went into the crag to find her husband, dead or alive. The ground rumbled again and she was crushed under the earth, swallowed whole.   The next day, her husband returned, having been in the next town over, having been sent on an errand by the mine boss. He was was heartbroken and in his despair, cried deep tears and flung himself into the mine to die. The ground rumbled once more and the mine was sealed for ever. This couple were popular in Vidantis, strong and stable, growing in both love and truth for each other and their loss was soon felt all around Vidantis.

Historical Basis

This legend happened sometime Before the Pulse, where the gods walked among the common man of Luna. The Widow Glacia is said to have asked and prayed to Solaine during her imprisonment however Solaine either decided not to hear or decided not to do anything.

Spread

The Myth of the Widow spread all around the area quickly and soon people were coming from all over Luna to look for the tears of the Widow that were said to have turned into rare and precious gems as they fell. This made the country prosperous and Vidantis benefited greatly from the influx of trade and goods. The legend stuck and eventually Widows Tear became the common name for the area and towns within.

Some say it was the man called Petram Parrellus who caused the cave in himself and used a hidden exit to save himself. When he realised he had crushed his wife the guilt drove himself to commit suicide.
