Claw of Vozzuth

Vozzuth was an ancient being, part of a race of Eldritch monstrosities, the Drog'nuuth. He was one of many warlords that led the Drog'nuuth armies on a conquest to take over the planet, slaughtering many of the early denizens of Lumarvis and expanding the territory of his Lord, Zal'khum, during the early Titanic Age. However, during the wars that ravaged the landscape of the world, he was slain by one of the Titans that gave the era its name, and his right hand was severed from his body as a trophy. It was given to an evil wizard, Tythil Virlarel, who imbued it with dark magic and managed to bring the soul of Vozzuth back from the Void and into the claw, where it still lingers.

History

At the end of the Age of Elements and during the early Titanic Era, the Celestials began creating titans to serve as the stalwart defenders of Lumarvis. These being clashed with the roiling chaotic mess of elements that were driven mad by the Ancient Ones. One of many generals from the Ancient Ones was Vozzuth, a colossal Drog'nuuth with one tentacle arm and another crab-like pincer with spindly tendrils constantly writhing about. His face was a mess of tentacles where his mouth should have been beneath two constantly piercing, yellow eyes. He led armies of Drog'nuuth to victory after victory against the puny humanoids and their titan defenders, expanding the influence of the Ancient Ones as far and wide as he could. Town after town fell as he tore through the countrysides, leaving a path of destruction in his wake.   Eventually, however, he met his match against an Ancient Gold Dragon blessed by Bahamut. The two clashed on the battlefield, the armies behind both of them decimated in the initial stages as they exchanged fierce blows. After hours of conflict, Vozzuth was slain, his body disfigured and torn asunder by the power of the dragon. Once their general fell, the rest of the Drog'nuuth under his banner quickly scattered, retreating into whatever holes they could find. Meanwhile, the surviving armies of the dragon worked on securing a trophy of their victory to show that it was possible for them to beat their enemy. They cut off his tri-tipped tentacle, dragging it onto a form of cart and bringing it back to town with them.   When they got it back to town, a wizard -- Tythil Virlarel -- happened to be passing through on his way to collect knowledge from a far off land. He saw the large tentacle before him, and he knew at once that it was from one of the mightiest Drog'nuuth of the time. Ecstatic at the possibilities, he bode his time until the middle of the night, then stole away into the barn where it was being kept. He knew of a specific spell, one that has since been stricken from nearly every spellbook to have contained it, that imbued the claw with dark energy, reaching beyond the Material Plane and grabbing the soul of Vozzuth. The soul returned to the tentacle, and it shrunk as the power surged through it until it was the perfect size for a humanoid creature.   When Tythil went to pick up the tentacle and inspect it, it writhed in his grasp and twisted up his arm, slicing off the appendage from the elbow and sealing itself around the wound. He screamed in pain as it melded with the rest of his body, the nerves reconnecting with the tentacle's own. Eventually, the pain subsided, and he could control the tentacle as if it were his own hand. Then a voice spoke to him. The deep, growling voice of a Drog'nuuth, whispering in the recessed corners of his mind. Slowly, it corrupted him further, urging him to wreak havoc on behalf of the Drog'nuuth. The tentacle began to slowly expand up his arm to his shoulder, turning him into one of the eldritch creatures. However, just a few days later, the transformation attracted too much attention, and a group of knights struck him down. The tentacle, sensing the danger it was then in, quickly scurried away, hiding in the dark caverns of the world or abandoned temples, wherever it could find some moment of safety.   Now, it lies in the Praesidium Archive, discovered by Kristoph Ebensen while on one of his many adventures. It is kept under heavy security, ensuring that no one gets close enough to allow it access to their body.
