Humanity has traveled far into the cosmos. Some of it from their own ingenuity but mostly by manipulating naturally occurring phenomena. Five hundred and fifty years ago humanity traveled to this new place, this new sector, through a wormhole corridor in space.
For fifty years travel to and from the new location was as easy as just hopping a transport and traveling through the wormhole. It didn't last, the world changed in the blink of an eye as the stable corridor collapsed.
The anchor station shattered into a million tiny bits and many lives were ruined, it came without warning.
The last transport to Earth entered the gate and was never heard of again.
Now, those on this side of the gate were on their own. That was four hundred and ninety-eight years ago.
