Essentia Magic
Traditional magic is an innate ability for mankind to enforce their will upon reality. Traditionally, it involves percieving the fundamental essences of the world, and then enforcing your will to modify them to interract.
Any budding spellcaster must first attune some of their senses to be able to percieve, even in a limited sense, at least two of the 4 known aspects of reality, these being matter, mind, spirit, and life. The vision granted by this usually only extends to the caster's own essences, but this is more then enough to understand how they direct it, and thus leveradge that to perform spellcasting.
Any spellcaster will have a part of their body altered by their power into what is known as a Locus. Most casters only have two Loci, usually their eyes, but any sensory part of the body will serve, even if no longer present. Additionally, some can obtian more, and unlock more forms of magic. Each Locus is attuned to a specific Essence, and a combonation is required to perform spells. Loosing the physical aspect of the Locus usually does not affect spellcasting. Rip out a caster's eyes, and they can still cast. But there are ways to target them with specific techniques and spells. Should the Locus be destroyed on the Ethereal level, the caster will need to make a new locus before they can cast again, at least from any school of magic using that Essence.
Each essence is used by at least 2 forms of magic
- Matter- Primal and Arcane
- Mind- Arcane and Occult
- Spirit- Occult and Divine
- Life- Divine and Primal
The techniques to perform magic were initially taught to mankind by The Four Gods of Magic. All forms of magic, with the exception of Weaver magic, work on this same level. It's unknown what essence the latter uses, but it is known that they turn their very soul into what is essentially a locus. As such, it is much harder to counteract.
