Redrownings

One of the superstitions that seems to be surprisingly pervasive amongst disparate cultures in Greymantle has to do with the treatment of drowning victims, and sometimes the bodies of those who have perished in the swamp through other means as well.
Proponents of this superstition say that it's best to leave the body of someone who has drowned in the swamp instead of retrieving the body, because the swamp can become angry that something it has claimed is being stolen. When this happens, the swamp will not only attempt to steal the body back, but take new ones along with it as penance. They claim that the very mud and water with rise up and attack, overwhelming anything living that attempts to stand in the way.
