King of the Southern Waters

Legend has it that in the southern ocean beyond Greymantle, there is a great beast the size of a whale, but scaled like a crocodile. He prowls the depths around the Three Twins island chain and beyond, and there are tales that every once in a while, he can be found invading the delta and dragging himself onto sandbars to rest.
Most of the tales of the King of the Southern Waters describe him as being a giant Greymantle crocodile that continued to grow during his many long years of life, remaining at the top of the crocodile pecking order until he was too big to move and hunt in the marshland at all. Crocodiles has some penchant for occasionally taking to the sea, so that's where he retreated, adapting to an entirely marine way of life as he sought larger prey to sate his hunger.
Variations on the theme say that he is the very first crocodile, as old as most of creation, or that he's even the god of crocodiles. Some tales describe him as a terrifying monster lurking below the waves, and some view him as a sacred guardian of Greymantle's southerm border, protecting from marine monsters and invaders of all sorts. It has even been claimed that one of the smaller and more remote island communities is his favorite, and he regularly visits the population, who essentially worship him.
