Northern March Report

General Summary

The party decides to head out for Falas, to take a ship from the Aduran port city to Aberella, Rahvin's home city. From there, they plan to travel to the small Ducercle town of Châtelain, where the baron that sold the dragon necklaces to Melora is said to reside.   Before they leave, Rahvin buys up the rations, mules and carts that are needed for the journey, much to Zela's chagrin. She walks up to each member of the party in turn, looking to purchase some item or the other to ease her own guilt over the situation that the group finds themselves in, but all seem well equipped for the journey. Close to tears, Mola takes pity on her and suggests that Zela can buy him alchemy supplies. But Zela remembers that Mola tried to keep her away from Kash and immediately refuses to spend any coin on the sorcerer.   Zela instead gives Ommi a gold piece and tells him to go get "many bags of bagels," which she intends to share with everyone. Ommi takes her at her word and returns soon with all the bagels money could buy: sixteen bags of a dozen bagels, making one hundred and ninety two bagels.   Rahvin returns with the tents and bedrolls needed, leading his new mule nicknamed Henderson.   The party sets off, heading north across the Viridi Mountains. The first day of their journey is calm, at first. Mola thanks Rahvin for saving his graduation, which Rahvin takes with characteristic humbleness.   Zela begins throwing her bagels to the forest creatures - about sixty, in total. Mola takes five as well, but makes the unfortunate choice of trying to eat them all at once. He begins to choke, and Alynn lets out a long sigh of annoyance, exclaiming that this is why you don't try and eat five bagels at once - and continues to lecture Mola even as the tiefling begins turning blue. Zela leaps into action and digs her finger deep into Mola's throat, catching the errant piece of bread and dislodging it. Mola falls to his knees, hacking and coughing. He still takes another bagel, though.   Later in the day, as the shadows grow long and purpled, Rahvin and Zela notice something quite shiny and metallic over the side of the cliff. It looks to be some sort of armor, or something similar. But as Zela flies down to get a closer look, she sees it is instead a golden dragon, sunning itself in the afternoon sunlight. Reverently - or perhaps - irresponsibly - Zela slaps the dragon right across the ass, waking it from its slumber. It turns over to glare at her, at which point Zela realized how completely she fucked up.   Though before she can apologize, the dragon takes to the skies, and swoops down low over the caravan. Everyone cries out and ducks the talons, save for poor Alynn, who is snatched up by the dragon as it flies away, faster than anyone can keep up with it.   Thankfully, Patent comes with homing technology, and begins to wander after its master, who is increasingly frightened at the thought of being eaten or dashed upon the rocks for the crime of offending this dragon.   The dragon and its assumed dinner soon approach its cave: a secluded cave in the cliffside, with no way to climb down or up to the entrance. Inside are gems, gold, and (Alynn can tell immediately) magical items in quantities he has never laid eyes upon.   The dragon stretches out upon its hoard, seeming more amused by Alynn's fright than malicious, but when the artificer asks for its name, the dragon refuses to give it until Alynn crafts something wonderful for it.   Alynn, swallowing back his terror, does so, creating a one pound silver sphere that appears polished on one side, and broken and chipped. The dragon takes ahold of the sphere in its clawed hand, reptilian eyes transfixed upon the artifact. Distracted, it gives its name as Mephite.    Alynn takes this moment of distraction to take a backwards step, falling out of the cave and escaping the dragon's clutches. As he plummets towards the rocky creaked below, he casts feather fall on himself. The cleverness of this creature delights Mephite, who with a laugh waves their hand and gifts to Alynn 2 potions of healing, 1 potion of animal friendship, 1 oil of slipperiness, 1 potion of water breathing, 1 Potion of Nature's Growth, and an Alchemist's Potion Belt.   The rest of the party, using Patent's tracking hardware, peak over the side of the cliff and see Alynn below - they almost missed him, even with Patent's help, as Zela and Mola are no use (both critically failing their perception checks). It takes some doing, but they eventually manage to haul Alynn up from the cliff and reunite with him.    As they continue on, the night passes peacefully enough. The next morning is a rather harrowing encounter with an umber hulk, feasting on the corpse of a small bear. Thankfully, everyone takes a quiet detour, and no encounter is had with the underdark creature. Rahvin's foot hits against something in the mossy earth. Another one of the umber hulk's victims? If only skeletons could talk. But since they can't, Rahvin instead relieves the corpse of its javelin, studded leather armor, spoiled rations, and a book titled, Castle Architecture.    The next morning dawns bright, and the party sets out once again. But as they pass through the woods, they hear the snapping of twigs, laughter amongst the trees. What could it be?
