Greyshoulder's Overlook

Nestled in the foothills of The Silverdrift Mountains, it is said that the Firbolg Greyshoulder loved nothing more than resting in this high vantage, sitting and watching over the forests of the valley with love, wonder, and a devoted duty to protect these lands from any who might abuse it. In the early history of Lockshire Dell, both Masters Holderhek and Lockshire sought Greyshoulder for permission to build their new settlement here in the valley he guarded. After much frustration (have you ever tried to haggle with a Firbolg) and not a small amount of persuasion, he finally agreed with the understanding that any pillaging of this forest he loved would not be taken kindly. Years later it was Greyshoulder who spotted the approaching army coming to claim Lockshire Dell and was able to warn its inhabitants of the pending danger. In gratitude, the citizens of Lockshire Dell banded together to make a simple staircase and structure for this dear friend to ease his travel and provide a modicum of protection from the overbearing heat of the summer and the biting winds of the winter.

  • Sight: This is a wooded area in the hills leading into the larger mountains to the north. I picture it as a stop while hiking the AT.
  • Sound: Forest sounds. Winds rustling through the trees. Perhaps small animals scurrying away in the underbrush.
  • Smell: Wood and trees. Wet leaves.

Purpose / Function

The firbolg Greyshoulder used this watch throughout his life as a place of meditation, quiet reflection, and as a high vantage to observe the valley below. Today, few people know of its location and is only very occasionally used as a camping spot.

Alterations

A stone circled fire pit was added after the passing of Greyshoulder by various travelers over the years. Hooks were added by Greyshoulder and others to hang items as needed or to string up tarps to provide more shelter.

Architecture

A simple stone staircase leads off of the main pass through the mountains. The path is obscured from the road as it is not well traveled. This staircase leads to what might have been a courtyard in a more civilized environment, but here off the main pass leading through the mountains and wild country, it is little more than a simple open area with a stone post pergola. The pergola is wide enough and tall enough to comfortably accommodate a small giant/firbolg.
