Sil

"The DIVINE lives in the high heavens; the earth is His footstool. From His dwelling He sees all the sons of man."
— --Canticle of Elior, Hymn 5

Sil is the dwelling place of the Divine, the place above the heavens, from which He watches, judges, and guides. The Kingdom of Sil is the example for all true kingship, the measure of justice, and the anchor of holiness. Mortals speak of it in hushed reverence, and those who defile themselves fear the gaze of its King.

Nature of Sil

Sil is understood as the high heaven, above the firmament, unreachable by mortal strength or cunning. It is not described in physical terms, but its character is made clear through the lives of those it calls:

  • It is righteous, for the Divine of Sil loves justice and hates falsehood.
  • It is jealous, for no rival gods are suffered before its throne.
  • It is merciful, yet not permissive—sin may be covered, but not ignored.

To dwell in Sil is not the default fate of all souls. The dead go to the grave beneath the earth. Sil is the home of the Divine, and entry into it is a matter not of death, but of righteousness.
