Demons
Demons in Logos are grotesque manifestations of the Corruption spreading beyond humanoids to infect the beasts and creatures of the world. Unlike humanoids, who are warped into monstrous versions of their original selves, beasts afflicted by Corruption transform into hybridized or anthropomorphized forms, cruel and violent mockeries of the Divine's gentle design. These abominations embody chaos and savagery, becoming a threat not only to the natural order but to all life in Logos.
Origins of Demons
The emergence of demons is a direct consequence of the ripple effects of Corruption. When humanoids succumb to moral decay and are transformed into their corrupted counterparts, the spiritual taint they release often bleeds into the environment. Beasts and lesser creatures in the vicinity are particularly vulnerable, their simpler natures unable to resist the influence of this malignant force.
Demons often take on twisted, hybrid shapes, combining features of multiple beasts or blending humanoid traits with their animalistic origins. These forms are grotesquely exaggerated, lacking the harmony and balance of the Divine's creations.
Behavior and Nature
Demons are far more violent than the creatures from which they originate, driven by a primal urge for destruction. Unlike natural predators, who kill for survival or defense, demons often kill for amusement, reveling in the suffering they cause. Many demons are little more than engines of destruction, lashing out at anything that moves. Some demons, particularly those closer to humanoid, exhibit a cruel cunning, orchestrating pain and chaos with deliberate malice. If left unchecked, some demons seem to "evolve," growing larger and more powerful as they continue to spread destruction. These greater demons often become the focal point of demonic powers.
Demons are never sated; their very existence is defined by an insatiable hunger for chaos and death, leaving desolation in their wake.
Rumors of Devilish Experiments
It is widely rumored—and feared—that the Devils, eternal schemers in their own right, have taken an interest in demons. The devils, with their mastery of manipulation, are said to have experimented on captured demons, twisting them further to suit their purposes. These experimental demons are rumored to be more powerful and more intelligent than naturally occurring ones, with abilities tailored for specific tasks such as infiltration, destruction, or the torment of mortal souls. Some whisper of devil-controlled demon armies, unleashed as shock troops in battles against dragons, mortals, or even rival devils.
Cultural Perceptions of Demons
The existence of demons inspires terror and hatred across the species of Logos. While Corruption is feared as a personal and moral threat, demons are seen as an external, tangible enemy that must be eradicated. Many species have dedicated orders or groups tasked with hunting demons, especially those bordering corrupted regions. These hunters often view their mission as a sacred duty to protect the world from these abominations. Some among religious groups believe that eradicating demons is an act of penance or a way to restore balance to the world. However, some corrupted rulers or tyrants have been known to use demons as tools of fear, either by unleashing them on their enemies or by threatening to do so.
