Tiefling

Born of infernal blood mixed with that of a mortal, tieflings have a devil-like appearance and draw ire and alarm wherever they journey. Though there isn't one clear explanation for the arrival of tieflings on Llenilan, scholarship suggests they've been around for hundreds of years, well before the current era. Ask a dozen scholars and you'll get a dozen stories. Tieflings are the result of a pack made with dark gods or infernal lords generations ago that has finally come to fruition. Tieflings are the result of a dark curse placed on a bloodline and its descendants. Tieflings are a more immediate sign that some sinful human was willing to share a bed with a demon. Tieflings are actually just devils, wandering the mortal realm without hiding.
The real answer is less important than the current reality: a flesh-and-blood mortal people with the fire of the Nine Hells inside them walk the continent and make their own choices, regardless of what others fear their heritage will compel them to do.
While "tiefling" is actually a specific scientific term referring only to the human-infernal ancestry, it's become the defacto name for all mixed-infernal races. There are specific terms for other bloodlines however: ehno-ri are elf-infernal, maeluth are dwarf-infernal, tanarukk are orc-infernal, and wispling are halfling-infernal. In all cases, the infernal bloodline is dominant. General silhouette and build may resemble the mortal parentage, but horns, tails, and infernal pigmentation in skin, hair, and eyes are guaranteed.
Some tieflings have spiraled horns like a ram, others have straight and narrow horns like a gazelle’s, and some protrude forward before curving upwards. They have thick tails, four to five feet long, which can coil around their legs and have a tendency to reveal their true emotions. Their teeth are sharply pointed, fingernails more like claws, and their eyes are solid colors - black, red, white, silver, or gold - with no visible sclera or pupil. Their skin tones are various shades of red, maroon, crimson, orange, and sometimes purple. Their hair, which grows from behind their horns, is usually dark, from black or brown to dark red, blue, or purple.
Tieflings often live in minority groups in well-populated cities or towns, where they can find others of their kind. These are often the roughest areas of a town, and many tieflings find themselves trapped in a life outside the law. As others are slow to trust them, they can be slow to trust others. There is no true tiefling homeland or culture, and so many take the names of their parental culture, even if it doesn't accept them.
