What starts as a child gifted with prophetic dreams can grow into a juvenile hearing angelic voices in their sleep. This may yet again grow to divine inspiration, and ultimately, guidance from and service to the gods. Aasimar are the children of mortal races who find themselves gifted with a divine spark from birth. Though they appear mundane until nearing adulthood, at some point, the child will manifest a celestial feature that makes them distinct from their parentage. As divine ancestry grows more prominent with age, an aasimar's connection to the divine so too grows.
While they physically resemble their ancestry, an aasimar's celetial features make them stand out among others, and rarely do two aasimar have matching features. Some may have glowing eyes of seemingly any color, others a metalic sheen to their skin. Some find their hair or skin color changing to stark white or luminous black, others a prismatic effect on their skin in sunlight. Aasimar often have extended lifespans as well - a human-born aasimar can live for nearly one-hundred-and-sixty years.
How the aasimar have come to be is still shrouded in mystery. Are they descended from celestials themselves? Annointed by the gods for some divine purpose? Born under a certain array of the heavens that allows power to seep into their souls? The verdict is still out. It seems to be almost entirely random in truth. The religious devotion of the parents, the family history, the location, birthdate, and just about anything else one can think to ask seem to have no bearing on which children will grow up to be aasimar.
Some people revere them as angels sent to aid mortalkind, others cower in fear when an aasimar approaches. Many can find work in temples or religious institutions, but others prefer to go their own way and use their celestial powers to help others without formality or dogma.
