Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Overall, Kazuhiko is in decent health and even works out often. However, he does have osteoarthritis. His joints often hurt and click, and after waking up his joints end up feeling stiffer than a brick wall. They also have a tendency to feel tender pretty often.

Because of his elf ancestry, he has a rather petite frame even with his muscles. His shoulders are more narrow than the average person's.

Special abilities

One quirk Kazuhiko has is that he has exceptional stealth, 90% of the time unintentionally. Most people can't hear when he's approaching. This is what would make him a great shinobi were he to need the stealth.

Personal history

Grew up happily in Japan, enjoyed living there, but moved to America after discovering he was neurodivegent. He had found out he was likely on the autism/adhd spectrum and wanted to be diagnosed and find accommodations, since his home country was very behind in recognizing neurodivergence. He was lucky enough to score a job in NATO as a translator, given he learned a couple of other languages in school back in Japan, including German and French.

He moved to America when he was 21, and he began trying to get a diagnosis for his neurodivergence. Unfortunately, back in the 1990s, no one was willing to diagnose an adult male, especially not one who was not the stereotypical white, American boy from a middle class family.

Thankfully he met Moriko's mother, Nakamura Hannah, who understood his neurodivergent tendencies. Although she couldn't help get him a diagnosis, she offered to at least be a friend for him—his first real friend in the country. They grabbed coffee often together afterward, and eventually fell in love. Eventually, they got married and had Moriko together in 1998.

Although eventually the two split up and divorced, after conflicting interests of the world, Kazuhiko and Hana remained good friends.

Sexuality

Kazuhiko considers himself to be pansexual. In recent years, as queer people gained recognition in America, he began to explore himself further and he realized he loves a person regardless of what their gender is.

Education

Kazuhiko obtained most of his education in Japan, having grown up there. In his schools, from elementary school through university, there had been an emphasis on learning other languages—English primarily as well as other languages of interest. Due to this, Kazuhiko picked up three other languages—English, German, and French. Though, he never had a special interest in language like Winter does but the language fluency certificates he got sure did come in handy.

Employment

Currently, Kazuhiko works as a German and French translator for NATO in Norfolk, Virginia.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

His biggest motivator is his daughter, Moriko. He has always worked hard to keep a roof over Moriko's head and to get her the help he couldn't. Early in her life, he and Hannah quickly noticed some of her quirks were similar to their own, and tried to get her a diagnosis early enough so that she would not struggle the same way he did. He wants her to have a better life as a neurodivergent person than he could have. Not that he blamed his parents—they didn't know they were neurodivergent until recent years themselves.

One of the biggest things about Kazuhiko is that he is very affectionate with his loved ones. He adores and dotes over his own daughter, Moriko, and adores his soon-to-be son-in-law, Hiiragi, and adores and even occasionally dotes over Winter as well. He loves holding Moriko, and holds Winter when they're upset when they're in need of a parental figure to cry on. On rare occasions, Kazuhiko also holds Hiiragi. He also has a tendency to get little small gifts for his family—even occasionally sending one out to his ex-wife and her wife, who always sends one back.

Tying into that is how supportive of a person he is. Even though he was extremely sad that Hannah did not love him the way he had loved her, he supported her and was happy she found herself. He offers his encouragement when his child and 'adopted' children, supporting them in their endeavors as they continue into their adult lives. He never got mad at Moriko when she fell behind in school—instead he worked hard to get her the resources she needed to catch back up.

Vices & Personality flaws

One downside to Kazuhiko is that he has a tendency to be impulsive, due to his ADHD nature. In school, he had to quickly learn to hide it so he could avoid bullying (although that did not stop anyone because kids will be kids). However, as an adult who began unraveling his masking techniques, he noticed that he has a difficult time thinking more than a few steps ahead, is easily distracted, and has a bad tendency to chafe under too many rules and restrictions.

Kazuhiko has a problem with insecurity, unfortunately like his daughter. Growing up in Japan, although his parents tried to allow him the freedom he needed to express himself, societal pressures still pushed him to mask and pretend he was okay. There, he was still met with bullying for being different. Then he came to America, hoping he could get help for his neurodivergence, and was also met with a lack of support there as well. He was laughed at for seeking help because he was an adult and because he was not white. He was verbally assaulted with racial slurs because he is Japanese. Oftentimes when he is out in public, he prefers to keep to himself and keep his head down, not drawing attention to himself. He gets nervous around other people, especially white Americans. When in public, he very much prefers to be with a friend or his family.

History

The pair met at the Hampton Roads Navy Museum in Norfolk, and began talking about their interests in history. At one point Kazuhiko accidentally spilled that he was pretty sure he was neurodivergent but he couldn't find any help because no one diagnosed adults. Hannah has a degree in psychology, and was able to explain why to him. He was lucky enough that she understood neurodivergence, and that she was researching the discrepancies between diagnosing white people, boys specifically, and diagnosing BIPoC. Although she couldn't help him mentally, she was happy to be his friend at least.

After meeting to get coffee several times, the pair ultimately decided to start dating, and eventually got married. January 30, 1998, their daughter, Moriko was born.

Unfortunately, they split and divorced in 2005, after discovering they were not compatible, with Hannah finally figuring out she was a lesbian. However, Kazuhiko didn't hold it against her, even being happy to see her happy, and supported her through her journey, setting an example for Moriko. Hannah remains in Moriko's life to this day, including her now-wife Imani Smith. Unfortunately due to Covid, she has not been able to see her in a few years, after being stuck in Germany.

To this day, Hannah still feels pretty bad that she didn't know she was gay until a handful of years into their marriage.

Commonalities & Shared Interests

Common between them are the fact that they were both Japanese-American, although Hannah had a few generations between her and her immigrant Japanese ancestor. Both are also neurodivergent, queer in some way (although they only discovered that much later), and love history, cooking, and reading.

Shinobi Abilities

Although Kazuhiko is currently not going to be using these powers, he will in later books due to the need of magic users on Earth to protect it.

Shinobi

• Deception: Although, Kazuhiko does not particularly like being deceptive but he's had to learn to deceive neurotypical people into thinking he's 'normal'. He absolutely despises doing it, and would rather be himself.

• Enhanced Stealth: One of Kazuhiko's quirks, or so he thought. However, he is easily stealthy without trying. Applying this later on, he finds he is alert to danger, can easily conceal himself (something he thought he had simply learned to avoid being noticed by racists), and he has the uncanny ability to sense when someone is watching him.

• Linguistics Mastery: Not that it was intentional, but this is more due to his schooling where it was heavily encouraged to learn other languages on top of Japanese.

• Judō Mastery: This is more related to his childhood, as one of the extracurricular activities Kazuhiko picked up was judō. Thankfully, this translates well into ninjutsu.

• Weapons: Kazuhiko will later pick up the usage of weapons to aid him in fighting the bad guys. He likely will pick up kunai and shuriken since it's easy to yeet.

Once magic gets introducted to Kazuhiko, however, he also gains some new abilities. Unfortunately, he insists he's far too old to try fun tricks like wall climbing or crushing things like he was Superman, or anything of that sort, but he has other tricks up his sleeve.

Shinobi Magic

• Chi (Ki) Manipulation: Can't be shinobi magic without some life force to draw from, like how in Naruto they draw from and utilize chakra, while in Final Fantasy 14 they utilize and draw from aether. Likewise, Llenarian shinobi manipulate ki energy. Does Kazuhiko know how to utilize it at first? Nope, he flounders like Winter, Moriko, Badr, and Hiiragi did at first. But Moriko and her sensei, Yama'no Minato are able to help teach him.

• Barrier Techniques: Kazuhiko is able to create force fields of a sort with his ki. He uses this especially to protect his children and friends from enemies. Unfortunately the major downside is that if he is under stress—which includes his arthritis pain—the barrier will fall apart. It also can be destroyed by energy absorption magic.
