Loremaster

The Song of the Lost War

What do you do with a living failure?
What do you do with a living failure?
What do you do with a living failure?
Kill it in the dawn times.

What do you do when the dying won't die?
What do you do when the dying won't die?
What do you do when the dying won't die?
Run and hide forever.

Deep in the dawn time failure did die.
Not dead the evil planned to live on.
Foul hunger sought then to kill and consume.
War did fill the whole world.

What do you do when the dying have lost?
What do you do when the dying have lost?
What do you do when the dying have lost?
Pray The Source to save you.

What do you do at the final battle?
What do you do at the final battle?
What do you do at the final battle?
Stand and hold no matter.

Thus was it done at the great war's ending.
Thus was it known that the dying must fall.
Thus was the Hero foully betrayed.
The evil fin'lly destroyed.

What do you do when the world is empty?
What do you do when the world is empty?
What do you do when the world is empty?
Gather and rebuild it.

What do you do with a living failure?
What do you do with a living failure?
What do you do with a living failure?
Kill it in the dawn times.

The songs of a thousand loremasters fill the inns and taverns of any given nation. The poems and paintings of loremasters fill the halls of palaces and the rooms of mansions. The statuary and topiary fill the gardens and plazas of cities. The stories of loremasters are heard around campfires and hearths throughout the world. The culture and history of the world, the regions, the nations cities and towns; all of these are the province of the Loremaster. In some places a Loremaster is merely a traveling entertainer, and in other places a Loremaster might be a trusted advisor to kings and emperors alike; respected to speak truth even when truth is hated. Every form of cultural artifact is the province of a Loremaster, and most are skilled in at least three; the greatest of the traveling Loremasters master a dozen or more. Loremasters hold sway with knowledge and wisdom, valor and violence, dance and deception. The character of a Loremaster is as varied as art and culture, from the most foul scoundrel to the wisest sage. The one thread that connects them all is the use of entertainment to spread cultural truths, and the powerful magic they learn along the way.

The Linibian States have so many nations, states, and holdings that were it not for the Loremasters the entire region would have fallen to chaos and returned to wilderness long ago. Because of this critical role, Loremasters are respected and welcomed in all but the most churlish courts. It is a rare thing indeed to find a Loremaster unwelcome or prosecuted, and either that Loremaster is truly evil and foul, or the leader of that realm is.
