    A-J

  • Adjective

Word defining an Intent. Employed in Wordsmithing with Idioms to manipulate and alter the way they are manifested. They can for example, increase the idiom's efficiency or divert its resource costs.

  • Compound Noun

Noun from the stratum of Matter. Made by merging two different Elemental nouns together.

They are 6 of them : Smoke, Steam, Substance, Forge, Growth and Vibration.

  • Deepened Noun

Noun from the stratum of Matter. Made by merging an Elemental noun with itself.

They are 4 of them : Plasma, Ice, Lightning and Metal.

  • Elemental Noun

Noun from the stratum of Matter. Can be merged with another elemental noun in order to create more complex nouns.

They are 4 of them : Fire, Water, Air and Earth.

  • Essence

Crystallized shape that takes the Flux when it reaches its purest form. Source of infinite potential, they represent one's individuality and can grow exponentially.

  • Flux

Primordial energy flowing through the entire multiverse : from the material world, the soul, the mind and the laws of reality themselves.

  • Idiom

Combination of Words resulting in a sentence, a unique spell ; usually a Noun, a Verb and an optional Adjective.

  • Intent

Core concept of the Soul, referring to the commitment and attitude towards a desired outcome. Used onto Idioms as Adjectives to alter their efficiency.

In wordsmithing, different Intents are born from merging the nouns of the Strata of the Soul.

  • K-R

  • Linguomancy

Science, study and research of the Language ; the logic and laws of the Flux.

  • Noun

Word defining a concrete or abstract energy, like physical elements, concepts, states of existence, and ideas.

Employed in Wordsmithing with Verbs to create unique spells called Idioms. Nouns define what energy is harnessed inside an idiom ; channeled and shaped from the caster's own Flux.

Each Noun is composed of multiple sub-definitions called Nuances ; defining the different domains of mastery and specialties it draws from.

  • Nuance

Subdiscipline of a defined noun. All the nuances of a noun help define the different domains of mastery and specialties it has power onto. Most idioms utilize a single Nuance, but some idioms can fall under multiple.

For example, the noun of Fire has two Nuances : Combustion and Heat.

  • Radical Noun

Noun defining and encompassing an entire stratum.

There are 4 of them, from lowest to highest levels of complexity : Matter, Mind, Essence and Reality.

  • Radical Verb

Primordial verb carrying aspects of semantic content, allowing wordsmiths to manipulate Flux and define its purpose. It is used as a root and building block for other verbs to dictate how they affect the Flux.

There are 2 of them : Speak and Shape.

  • Rift

Gaping tears in the fabric of reality, left from someone failing to use idioms related to the Nouns of the Stratum of Reality (Time, Space, Void and Reality).

Reality is like a cloth, idioms of Reality creating holes in it in order to bend it to the caster's will. After ripping the weave of existence, the caster needs to mend it afterward, a much more difficult feat to accomplish. Failing to do so leaves the crack wide open : a Rift. As the cloth of reality keeps bending over time, the tear keeps expanding.

Rifts are an extremely dangerous phenomenon, glitching reality and potentially breaking the Balance of anything they touch. They can uniquely corrupt the environment in drastic ways, render living creatures mad, or even warp physics. Most tension happening in the world happens because of Rifts. For this reason, using Idioms of Reality is illegal and extremely frowned upon in modern culture.

  • S-U

  • Sapient

Lifeform with sufficient intelligence, awareness and individuality to be able to comprehend the world around it and live with peers ; notably in a society with other sapients.

  • Sigil

Visual symbol representing a given word in the Language : a Noun, Verb or Intent.
While their usage isn't necessary to cast idioms, they greatly help the wordsmith concentrate and focus their Flux into a desired manifestation.

  • Smithing

Action of creating Idioms through the blend of Words ; usually a Noun, a Verb and optional Adjectives.

  • Soul

Pure crystallized Flux, blend of both Essence and Mind.
From the essence, a mind is born and can flourish ; tightly weaved and intertwined with its parent essence.

  • Strata of the Soul

Umbrella term in wordsmithing referring to the two innermost strata forming the Soul : Mind and Essence. These two strata are deeply interconnected, as emergent semantics are born from their conjunction.

It is theorized that Essence is an extension of Mind, akin to the relationship between Elemental and Deepened nouns in the stratum of Matter.

  • Stratum (singular) / Strata (plural)

Domains that the Flux has influence over ; acting like layers resting on top of each other.

There are 4 of them, from outermost to innermost : Reality, Matter, Mind and Essence.
Flux itself exists at all levels, even outside the Strata ; acting both as the foundation and the product.

  • The Balance

Core equilibrium achieved between all the Strata when they coexist. Through this foundation, life is able to flourish, and Flux is able to be harnessed.

The Balance breaks if any stratum is rendered inefficient : a person's physical body dies, their mind shatters, their essence withers or their anchor to reality is severed.

In this situation, life reaches its end, and the other strata are soon to wither away as well, returning to the Flux.

  • The Language / language of the Flux

Laws and logic regarding the Flux itself.

Thought to be chaotic and unpredictable at first, sapients all over the world and eras have studied the Language in order to harness its power. The science of studying the Language is called Linguomancy.

  • V-Z

  • Verb

Word defining a manifestation. Employed in Wordsmithing with Nouns to create unique spells called Idioms, defining how the noun is externalized inside an Idiom.

  • Verb of Shaping

Verb that works by manipulating an already manifested noun ; meaning that the chosen energy does not necessarily need to be created out of Flux for the idiom to take effect.
A verb is primarily considered of Shaping even if it qualifies as a verb of Speech.

For example, a verb that creates and expels fire out of Flux, but then manipulates it afterward is still referred to as a verb of Shaping.

  • Verb of Speech

Verb that manifests and creates the chosen energy from Flux.

For example, a verb that creates and expels fire out Flux is a verb of Speech.

  • Wild

Verb whose usage isn't universally functional towards all nouns.

Each wild verb has a unique sigil and can work between multiple nouns ; creating a unique manifestation specific to them, regardless of roots.

  • Word

In Linguomancy, describes a syntactic element of the Language.
It defines components used in Wordsmithing, such as nouns, verbs, adjectives, verbal input, sigils or gesture.

Words are the products of a science, being systematic hypotheses that have been discovered and predicted throughout history.
Their morphology has been refined through study in order to simplify their usage and broaden their application with other words.

  • Wordsmith

A sapient practicing and potentially studying Wordsmithing ; the practice of casting spells called Idioms.

  • Wordsmithing

Practical side of Linguomancy. Refers to the craft and use of magical spells called Idioms, by using the Language.

This is done by merging words together, typically a Noun (an element), a Verb (a manifestation), and optional Adjectives (an intent).
