Khenra

Written by Stevey Steve

Khenra are a race of dog-like humanoids who’s only known civilization is underground in the great desert to the South West in the Unclaimed Territories.    Khenra mostly keep to themselves unless approached. They are highly skilled warriors with their preferred weapons called Khopesh’s and are ruthless when they feel threatened. However, Khenra do not go looking for a fight. From the surface of the dessert, there would be no indication of a sprawling civilization underneath the sand. Khenra use a device called a Tahaatuf to teleport them to and under the surface of the dessert. Only they know where the Tahaatufs are from the surface, as there are no indicators.   Very few outsiders have visited the underground city of Ba. But the ones who have described it as an architectural marvel. Giant buildings with long bridges and stair cases spiraling down seemingly forever. These man made caves are passively illuminated by some type of magical aura and the Khenra use a strange type of climate control to maintain desirable temperature, humidity, and oxygen levels while underground.   The way the civilization functions has been witnessed enough to speculate about, but the answers to why they are digging is unknown. The Khenra are isolationist, and entirely self sustaining, though there are times where they have been spotted in groups of two or four in various locations all across Lind for unknown reasons.   Khenra are almost always seen in groups of even numbers since they are always born as twins. The Khenra twins spend their entire lives together, rarely separating for more than a few minutes at a time. However, the reasoning for this anomaly is unknown to the outside world.

Khenra names follow a typical “stressed, unstressed” syllable pattern, but vary in length. Some examples are Dasmadoma, Tamah, Jideh, or Zesa. Single syllable names are rare.

Common Dress Code

All Khenra are seen covered in light brown, linen cloaks. Covered from head to toe with hoods almost always covering their heads. They typically blend in easily with the sand only being given away by a reflection of light on the bottoms of their feet while walking. This is due to metallic foot wear attached to the bottoms of their feet to disperse heat, they look somewhat similar to horseshoes.
