Lȳt Middel

Lȳt Middel would be considered quite insignificant if not for its role as the deemed heart and centre of the land (though no one knows for certain if it is truly in the centre. After all, Limtless has no borders). Literally "little middle" in Old English, the village serves as a crossroads for travelers and a connecting point for species, especially in recent years. It is also well known due to the urban legend of a demon roaming around the area. (But we know nothing of that, do we?)

Demographics

Originally a small human settlement of farmers, Lȳt Middel has been slowly growing into a community of humans, elves, pandeans, and even one very enthusiastic abomination . Recent consensus shows a population that is 58.2% human, 23.4% elven, 18.3% pandean and 0.1% abomination.

Industry & Trade

As the central crossroads, Lȳt Middel is a village full of inns, taverns and restaurants, as well as shops of all kind for travelers; one could say that Middlians are very hospitable. Housing travelers and questers makes up of approximately 75% of the village's income.

On the other side of the coin, the village never truly let go of its farming roots. The people farm mainly beets and carrots, though some farm produce of the magical nature, such as bright berries and moon radishes.

History

Allegedly founded by a farmer by the name of Johnny Keating, the village started out as a dispersed community of farmers who came from the south, looking for good soil. It is said that Keating officially started the village when his daughter wished to marry but had no official way to do so. The village's original name was Masan. Keating's now daughter-in-law Mary Llawcae became the first mayor.

For the first century or so, Masan remained a farming community. Residents however did notice the large amount of travelers who passed by, and they were welcoming to all, folk and demon alike. Renowned quester Quinn Larquion wrote, "[The Masanian family] had another over. A fiend. She had a broken leg, and the mother was nursing it. They acted as if she and I and they were no different. They fed, housed and cared for us as long as we required, without asking anything in return."

The village's hospitable reputation soon grew, as travelers spread the word of a warm and welcoming community to visit if ever nearby. Its geographic location relatively centered between the Free Lands, Jemine and Elarquie meant that nearly everyone going from one place to another was bound to be nearby at some point. Masanians saw the opportunity and began building inns and taverns, allowing for even more people to be housed. It was King Alistair himself who, 213 years after the founding of the village, coined the term "the Crossroads Town". Two years afterwards, Masan was renamed Lȳt Middel.

350 years after founding was the Fall of Karres in the north, which left many elves without homes. Though most went further south or scattered around Elarquie, a small group of Midday Elves heard of the quality soil and welcoming nature of Lȳt Middel, moving in and starting the community-within-the-community, Alftown.

The most notable event in recent history would be the spread of the urban legend telling of the spawn of a basilisk and a human living in the village, attacking whomever it meets. The tale originated in the village itself, and through word of mouth it spread across Jemine and Elarquie, eliciting a wariness within younger generations as opposed to the appreciation within the older.

Geography

The village is built upon grassy fields in midwestern Jemine, centered almost exactly between capital cities Arya of Jemine and Rorron of Elarquie, north of the Forest of the Silver Horn.
