The Basilisk's Eye
The most popular inn in the village of Lȳt Middel, the Basilisk's Eye is a warm and welcoming place that comes highly recommended for any traveler in the area. Take a seat! Enjoy the food (they're family recipes, I highly recommend the pie). Have a drink. And don't believe the innkeeper's tall tales. He's a talented story-teller with a sense of humour and an affinity for the theatrics. That little shit.
Purpose / Function
Founded by the owner in the name of his late father, Lȳt's Eye is meant to offer a hospitable and homey place to welcome the weary traveler and a nice drink to the villagers.
History
Of course, no building worth mentioning is without its history. The innkeeper Virgil's father was a basilisk by the name of Eddie (hence the true meaning of the name of the inn). It's not every day that a demon such as a basilisk marries and has a child with a human, but the people of Lȳt Middel were accepting and loving, as Virgil's parents Eddie and Jane were simply so kind and sweet.
After Eddie's death, Virgil took advantage of the circumstances of his birth to concoct a tall tale to keep his father's memory alive, thus opening the inn and creating one of the most prominent urban legends in all Jemine and Elarquie. He greets every new face with his stories, giving them a good fright and the townsfolk a good laugh in the process.
"They named it after the eye of the basilisk 'cause once you set eyes on it you'll never feel like leaving."
