Korkeft
The Korkeft is a Bludjok Chief.
Qualifications
Any Orc may challenge for the title. However, it is considered poor form to challenge for the title without having proven themselves through unspoken traditions.
Appointment
A Korkeft can concede the title at any time to any other Orc. Generally, in more stable Mul'vfup, this is done through ceremonial combat with the Korkeft's chosen successor.
In a contentious region, an Orc may challenge for the title and the sitting Korkeft defends it. It is considered taboo to kill the sitting Korkeft, but a Korkeft who does not concede when they are beaten often lose their legitimacy, being Korkeft in name only and encouraged to concede. Continued insistence on maintaining the title in the face of defeat erodes the intensity of the taboo.
When a Korkeft is unable to concede the title, whether through an untimely death or a physical/mental infirmity, contenders compete for the position via tourney. It is considered uncouth for a Korkeft to allow themselves to lapse into infirmity without conceding the title which becomes a stain on their honor, which carries on after death.
