The Order of the Exalted Custodians
Chosen from elite combatants in Samos, often from those who have served long years of service, members of the Order of the Exalted Custodians are figures who represent the great ideals of justice, virtue and order. With a strict means to enter the order, the numbers of the order are relatively small. It is considered to be a great honour to be granted as a Custodian, and granted the rights to wear the golden trimmed armour that grants awe to lesser soldiers.
The primary service this order fulfills is the protection of the Machitikós Stone, a source of pride for the city state, but have been known to act as arbiters, judicial work and, in times of need, battlefield Tagmatarkhis.

History
Supposedly formed during the founding of the city state of Samos, at the same time the Machitikós Stone was first carved upon, the first five custodians of the stone were made from the survivors of a battle between the settlers of Samos and an occupying force of tribal men, their names forgotten.
Now the Exalted Custodians protect the stone night and day, letting none near it, causing an interesting scenario when Polemarchos and Taxiarhos must carve their names upon it.
