Maria Winship

Maria Winship

Maria, the human born wendigo gone feral after her sons Alex and Lee left her with an empty nest.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Maria has surrendered her human form, but it is implied that she was once a rather beautiful woman before the psychosis got to her. In the end, Maria looked tired, gaunt, and worried at all times. Now she is but a skeletal looking creature.

Body Features

Maria's beauty has also come through in her feral form, though now you may need to look past her slender and emaciated frame to see any remaining beauty. Her face is bare bone, with piercing blue glowing eyes under a set of very sharp and pointed red deer looking antlers. Every bit of her is stark white, with no other markings. Not all that rare as white wendigos do exist, this means most of the year without snow Maria is in hiding. She had pawed feed just like her son, Lee.

Facial Features

Maria lacks these. Bone does not have muscle based features.

Personal history

Maria lived a standard human life up to her college age where she crossed the country to Rhode Island in order to attend class at RISD. During her time there, she continued to cross paths in class with a tall dark skinned man that was there on a few grants in hopes of getting a higher education. He seemed particularly skittish of people, didn't talk much at all, and kept to himself. His shy and misanthropic attitude was confusing to Maria, since he was tall, and had no reason to fear anything really. This of course was none other than Joseph Winship. She attempted talking to him on several occasions, trying to start a normal routine to get to know him. He proved somewhat reluctant to open up, but was friendly enough. It took a year of the habit of meeting him outside of the main class building with a coffee for it to lead to open conversations on the way inside. It became so routine that on days she didn't show for simple things such as a cold, he would show at the dorms to check on her. She never did ask how she knew which door to knock on. After her first summer break her return found him looking a bit worse for wear, but he quickly perked up. The second year the two were far more closer to one another. Maria decided not to go home for winter break, and by summer break decided she wouldn't head home for summer either.   Her parents were obviously not happy. When pressed about the issue why she didn't want to come home and news spilled out she was dating a boy at the college, that was it. They cut their support, and told her they would no longer pay for classes. But Maria wouldn't budge. In retaliation she cut ties with her own family. In what was no doubt a sweet but miscalculated act of solidarity, Joseph decided to end his grant to the school. They both dropped out of college. Not the best decision as time would go on to prove, but nothing Maria would ultimately regret. Even with a bombshell about to be dropped.   At twenty one Maria was a college drop out, living with her boyfriend in Massachusetts, a country away from her parents she swore she would never see again, working waitressing jobs to make the rent when, due to living with Joseph, he came clean about what he was. At first Maria laughed, unable to take it seriously or believe the man she had known for two years was anything but human til he sprouted wide horns from his head and well, very quickly the room went silent. After a few questions and answers back and forth, Maria decided it changed nothing. She was staying.   Nothing exciting happened for years pretty much. It was the late 80's, marriage wasn't so important to be done exclusively in a church. They had their vows officiated, and... went on working the next day. Just living paycheck to paycheck. At age 25, the true test of living with a wendigo would finally hit her. She was expecting a very non-human baby while she herself was. The food requirement was near impossible to upkeep, with Joseph sometimes going without so his wife could eat. Increasingly it turned him towards the woods in order to feed the family. Miraculously Maria came through the pregnancy still as herself. But at twenty seven, tested a second time, Maria couldn't resist any further the call of her psychosis. She absolutely demanded that she needed human flesh, and not one to say no to his wife, Joseph provided by breaking into biohazard on his custodian shifts at the local hospital to pilfer anything and everything he could find from surgical awaiting disposal.   By the time Alex was finally born, Maria had made the shift over to wendigo. And now there were four ravenous mouths to feed on a low two person paycheck. Joseph began to hunt the woods more frequently, and stay away more often to lessen the demands. Sometimes for months. Maria was a mother of two, trying to understand what she had become, how to raise her children as a being she had no full idea about, and run the household. Very quickly it became apparent to her on the rare times Joseph would be home. She and her children were eating meat. Joseph was eating people.   Before her children could even reach kindergarten age, Joseph had faded mostly from their lives. Maria had scant meetings every once in a while if she went out while her children were asleep. Without words needed for her to take in the situation, Maria understood that she was on her own now for raising her children, as Joseph was more interested in living ferally while she refused in order to give her children the opportunity to live the civil life he had been trying to obtain back when they first met. She accepted the roll with grace, never fully resenting her husband. In fact, she would join him on one condition; her children must become adults first.   The end result came almost too quickly for Maria as constantly working seemed to shorten the says as she struggled through poverty with her kids. The second that her youngest, Alex graduated and decided he was going to live feral, sure it broke her heart that he was throwing away the very opportunity she fought so hard for him to be able to have, but finally Maria could abandon all the shackles of civil life. She kept her promise, following after Joseph to live a feral life.
