Edmund

Edmund

Edmund. Of all the people in the world you should hope never gets the power over others or to hurt people, he may be the top of the list. Nubile and gentle at first, Edmund is one of the most cunning of modern age wendigo, making him a lethal manipulator. And now his might is on par with that intellect.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

No longer a spry young man as he often will regale to you, Edmund isn't a stiff decrepit old man either. Lacking all forms of body fat as well as muscle, Edmund is a plain and lithe looking older gentleman, his spine still straight despite all his stooped studying he's done. Gone are the days he might brag to you about in excessive exageration about his prowess, but he has found new life as a wendigo.

Body Features

Edmund is rather active and it showes. Though the years have worn on him, he feels much better being a wendigo, and that surely says something.   Speaking of, Edmund has grown a rather sizable, skeletal wendigo form, streaked in greys, whites and dark black elk markings. Currently, he stands at fifteen feet at the head. He's larger than even Joseph himself had been before his death. Edmund's tail is a shorter but thicker long limb, with more noticable muscle to it. His back feet are more bear like, or of a dog with five toes rather than only four. His ribs jut out of his chest as well as some of his spines on his lower middle back.

Facial Features

Edmund's light blue eyes set behind a pair of wide oval spectacles displace all distrust of him from the start, and the kind elderly gentleman's face complete with thick white locks and a bushy, well groomed beard and moustache will have him winning anyone's trust dangerously quickly. His face is rather long, oval shaped with his hair combed back rather meticulously.   In his wendigo form, all this melts away to a bare faced skull of a monster with violet red glowing fiery orbs in a sea of darkness. His antlers are warped, a greyish color and glossy to the point it looks like steel. Each of his twelve tines are over exaggeratedly sharp and curved, hooking like massive horns covered in spears. They look somewhat white tail in nature. To say he's long in the tooth takes on a literal meaning as well. His canines are long, saber like, and touch the bottom edge of his bottom jaw.

Identifying Characteristics

Edmund's eyes have a soft glow to them like any wendigo, most noticeable in dark or dim lighting.   His ears are sharper than humans along the upper part, but it's hard to see with some strands of his hair covering the tops of them.

Special abilities

Intense Intimidation - Edmund's size alone at twenty five feet in height might cause terror. His hulking form is grotesque and horrible, spine and ribs jutting from his flesh with a bare bone face. This is even before he incorporates his Scream. Edmund's voice is capable of provoking an inescapable sense of dread, breathing fear of death and impending doom into any that see and hear him. The feeling of fear is nearly physical as a weight on the body for the duration of the scream, and has brought lesser beings like humans and some weak or young wendigo to their knees. It is powerful enough to freeze the Praetorians themselves, and even Alex in place for a few seconds, though the after effects of being unnerved may stay until a situation with Edmund is over.   Herculean Strength - With size comes a natural uptick in strength. It is doubled with Edmund being a wendigo. Then you remember that Edmund has eaten and consumed many other wendigo for this extreme power. His large hands are big enough to grasp another large wendigo with ease, and ragdoll them, toss them, or shove into his gaping mouth whole. With a swing of an arm Edmund could send a family sized van tumbling for fifty feet. Any hit by him would be enough to shatter bone.   Monstrous Gains - Edmund has eaten so many other wendigo and humans that his size has become that of legendary proportions not seen on the planet since the early days of civilization in the Americas, granting him powers once excused as myth and exaggeration by those who first made the legends about wendigos having control of the weather, and bodies the size of full trees.   Legendary Unstoppability - Edmund is a large and easy target, not too fast and a bit unstable given his bulk when he charges. But all his size has granted him with thicker skin, tougher than a rhino's. Burns must run hotter and longer in order to boil fat and reach the lower dermis to do the same lasting damage a normal flame may do to your standard wendigo. Bones are dense and large, with the ones in his forearms being the same thickness as some human's whole thigh. In other words Edmund can take a hell of a beating and continue to fight or pummel past what other wendigo are capable of. If he ever got into deep water, he'd easily drown. But getting him to the water is a whole different story.   Pervasive Voice - The Wendigo ability of mimic has taken a twisted turn in Edmund's sick mind, his thoughts twisting and invading the minds of others in his vicinity. Anyone near him might hear their loved ones crying in pain or abject sorrow, voices of friends long gone screaming for help, and a persistent mocking laughter that never seems to cease.   Gore - Edmund is filthy and covered continually in viscera and other remains in his feral form due to the sheer amount of corpses and food he must continually consume. His fur is sticky and slimy in places from it all, making gripping him sometimes its own endeavor while when the blood is fresh it ads a layer against burns. The smell is putrid and sickening, upturning weaker stomachs with ease if the wind blows the stench in their direction. Edmund is a rotten being, and now his form and scent reflects that.   Ice - Edmund's abilities lean towards frigid snow and ice rather than wind. Cold follows him wherever he goes, and he may quickly coat the area in fine layers of frost and ice. It appears his control over it isn't rapid or offensive for fighting, but instead for manipulating the weather to a very high and deadly degree.   Meteorological Mayhem - Edmund's power over ice and cold is slow, and meteorological. Just as mythical as the abilities of the ancient wendigo before the settlers of America spread from coast to coast, Edmund can bring forth a blizzard any time of three seasons; Fall, Winter and Spring. These changes take days to implement, but the damages of the weather Edmund can conjure is deadly.

Apparel & Accessories

Edmund wears a set of old wide spectacles despite having perfect vision. A hold over from his human years.   Given to him as a gift by a "gratious astute young colleague of mine some years ago", Edmund can be seen limping with a specialized ornate wooden cane of a rather curious design. The upper part including handle and going down a third of the cane is not wood, but rather bone. The femur of a grizzly to be exact, with the ball joint of it the end of the cane's grip. But don't let that limp fool you.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Born in 1956, Edmund grew up during the age of technology and the threat of Soviet attack all around him, as well as a fast changing world. As a young boy too small to understand, he watched the violence swirling about in opposition to desegregation and equal rights. He saw the growth of the space race as well, and listened enraptured as a preteen just about to enter high school the crackle of man's landing on the moon. That's what it was. The spark of science, reaching the unknown, and understanding it. Throughout his life in highschool, Edmund took to his science studies hungrily, and found he was rather keen on biological studies. Always a brilliant child, Edmund had a thirst for knowledge that brought him out of high school and into college where he continued his studies.. as well as his own research.   For Edmund you see was convinced like many with stars in their eyes of the sudden uptick of technology that soon in the near future they would conquer space itself. And Edmund believed he too, as all humans could as well, could be enhanced upon in some way.   This would become his lifelong project.   Edmund worked in countless labs studying diseases, medicines, and results of trauma. On a heavy note he was a part of a study known now as Silversprings where he worked with several others over a handful of macaques. The project was thrown open by animal rights activists after an insider leaked information. To say that Edmund managed to get the fuck outta dodge at the right time was an understatement. He was transferred to another research program at his demands a week early, citing the lack of control in experiments and that it was a waste of his talents. The fact he said nothing about the horrible conditions of the monkeys being the reason he left speaks very loudly here.   With the best years behind him, now slowing in stride as he hit his late fifties, Edmund began to worry that he might never see the fruition of his studies. Perhaps if he had stayed in the US he would have maybe found his way into Rush's lab and made real progress. Instead as he hit wall after wall of repeated failures and dead ends, Edmund began to reach out to the extraordinary. Countless years studying the human psyche had lead him into the deep north of the american continent. A search of a people steeped in legends that gave birth to the medical terminology of Wendigo Psychosis.   And he found them.   He treated the few he had found graciously, offering aid and kindness. So far from human kind, forgotten, many needed aid and, being a doctor (not a physician but not like they cared he was the wrong type of doctor) Edmund stepped in for even small injury cases, as children do not yet exhibit the fast healing of their parents. He gained the trust of several small families. They would claim he would be the type to give you the shirt off his back.   But it all would come at a price.   Edmund used his station to study the wendigo, taking notes and learning about their growth and abilities. Astounded by their slow aging and regenerative abilities, Edmund began to see if there was some way to harness this without the curse. He filled dozens of notebooks, maybe hundreds of his time with them, three years first. However, for all his charm, Edmund saw them beneath him. Primitive beings, worthy of nothing but pity and to be taken advantage of for the better cause. They were beasts, hardly able to stand working together for a game at a simple gathering at the park. As Edmund became more familiar, he delved deeper into their studies. He witnessed small bouts of family feuds, tribal warfares of sorts over land that they barely could live off of anyways.   "They were like dogs fighting over scraps of food, and instantly it brought to mind the thought of Stalin's guards in Nazino tossing a loaf of bread to see the starving prisoners squabble violently for the crumbs. If I had tossed in a roast, by God's green earth, I don't think a single one would be left alive after that fight."   After five years of studying every possible way to entrap the abilities of the wendigo within him sans the never ending hunger, Edmund had still no key. He was sixty, no further from start of his mission than the first year. Edmund turned to more drastic measures. By then he had given up on seeing if he could use them in his studies. He was now going to use himself. He started simple enough, sterile, injecting small increments of wendigo blood from a "specimen" with the same type as him. Noting no change, Edmund did a full transfusion, showing great joy in how the site of the transfusion healed so rapidly, and the fading pain in his joints. And then instant anger when its effects died out. This brief moment where it worked had triggered a delusional and hyperactive concept that he was on the cusp of his breakthrough while hovering on the very edge of old age. He feared death would interrupt him, cut him off from his research prematurely before he could finally obtain the unobtainable. Edmund became obsessed...   "I can't fathom it, after coming so close and tasting victory on my very lips, it was so quickly taken away! I felt as if I was a young boy again. Believe you, me, if I had tried I could have run and beaten my record of ten miles in seven minutes easily. It isn't fair that these creatures have such a blessing to their name. Unbelievable! Ridiculous! God as my witness, I will find my answers, even if I must become a beast. But I dare say I would still be more than them even then, thanks to my intellect. Yes. If I become a wendigo, then I could study myself inclusively. And in time not just find a way to distill this blessing of God from the curse, but cure it of myself. Imagine.. refined, corrected, concentrated; immortality."   Constantly around other wendigo, it was a quick transition of eating human remains to change. The process did have its hang ups as Edmund found even the thought of consuming human flesh a repulsive abomination of God's natural order, but still he indulged. And indulged ravenously.   Edmund became quickly one of the strongest wendigo in the region. Enraptured by the healing ability it granted his body, and the enhanced senses it brought that he had once only heard and wrote about. Finally, for the first time he was experiencing it himself firsthand.   "At long last I am a step closer! I feel as good as I have ever been. Every ache has melted away. My missing tooth from my skiing accident has even grown back. Athletic tasks are effortless. I can feel the energy flow through my veins like cold ice water, invigorating me with the very powers of the fountain of youth. What amazing abilities and changes that I have watched for so many years. It's mine. And it's real. Now it's real."   As years went on, with many constant feedings off humans, Edmund has found his studies keeping him sane, if only so. With no need for the wendigos he had spent time with, and such a monstrous appetite pushing him to be strongest of them all, Edmund cannibalized them all to cleanse the territory of any challengers to his studies and food. All the people he had helped, bandaged, fed, conversed with and had seen as family. All gone in the blink of an eye for Edmund to protect his research. They never mattered to him.   In his incessant research driven frenzies of self mutilation and testing, Edmund has started down the slippery slope that flips his old theory and now drives him ever closer to a culmination of fury and blood. He was once wrong, but now he knows better.   "Whatever was I thinking? Cure myself? This form alone was worth the price of admission! My feeble body must have convinced me curing it was only for the best, but now my eyes have been opened. A wendigo is free, pure, able to fall on base instinct past the turgid waters of social acceptance. This is the closest to God any being could ever become. And yet.. I feel a deep growing pit thirsting for more. There is more, somewhere, untapped. Where is it? What is it? I need it. The prospect that there is *something* beyond this claws at the inside of my skull, screaming for release. The wendigo in me hungers for resolution. I will give it to him. Whatever this ability is, past eating more of them whichever it unlocks.. I see it. I will be a living God."
