Vecavac (Veh-kah-vak)

Vecavac is a vaccine against the vectors of all of the predator syndromes, including Rumavec, Contramort, and Taongaso. It is the first in its class at providing protection against all of these syndromes, acting upon the viral vectors which make them contagious in the first place. It additionally replaces the previous vaccine available for the Z-virus, which was known to have an abysmally low efficacy rate.   Although it is not widely known yet, Vecavac has no effect on the Z-Virus Alpha Strain.

Efficacy

Vecavec is not perfect -- it has an efficacy of about 85% for the T and C viruses, and 74% for the Z virus (alpha strain excluded). Efficacy, in this case, is measured by remaining measurably non-infected two months after being bitten by a symptomatic infected.   When bitten by a zeitgabber with hyperruemia (chronic or otherwise), Vecavec is far less effective. It is thought this is because high amounts of rumase "overwhelms" it. That said, immediately administering booster shots after such a bite still confers a decent (~50%) chance of remaining non-infected.   There are some concerns that the vaccine may be increasing the number of carriers...

Utility

A very small minority of wealthy or well-connected Non-Infected in Licentia have gotten ahold of the vaccine and purposely administered it to themselves in hopes of staying free of the predator syndromes.
Inventor(s)
Details of the invention are a closely-guarded secret due to the potential risk of assassination by radical zeitgabberim. However, two professors and one staff scientist at UC Riverside have claimed to have been involved in the project. One of them is currently negotiating a book deal with Scholastic and a tenure-track position.
Access & Availability
As of writing, Vecavac is supposedly only available to the US military, who is hurriedly vaccinating their troops in attempt to reduce the huge desertion problem caused by soldiers becoming infected. A small number of them have been smuggled by the manufacturer to other buyers, mostly private buyers and paramilitaries. Although the United States correctly suspect this is happening, they are currently tolerating it as the creation of the vaccines cannot be easily replicated.
Complexity
The exact mechanism and immunology have not been publicly released, at one point leading to great scientific skepticism that it even worked at all. The release of lowered infection numbers in soldiers have silenced doubts of its ability, but it is still worryingly enigmatic to all but a select few. The reason for this secrecy has itself not been revealed, but it is thought this is an attempt to prevent Licentia's own scientists from rendering it ineffective.
