An Búistéir
Andrew Christopher Kyteler
An Búistéir, sometimes known as Andrew the Butcher, was a serial killer active in Ireland between 1845-1852. Although some have tried to rehabilitate him as a hero seeking revenge on British soldiers stealing grain from Irish farmers during An Gorta Mór, there's a lot of conflicting reports as to his motives might have been, with some claiming he was simply a violent misogynist, a necrophile, a cannibal, a low-functioning sociopath, or even simply a man seeking notoriety. His kill count is estimated to be approximately 37. Rumors of an accomplice lead to a witch hunt even after he was killed, which itself lead to three people being executed.
Although sometimes called "the butcher of Belfast" as he briefly operated in that region, there is no relation between him and the various loyalists in that region who call themselves butchers.
Mental characteristics
Education
Details of his education, if any, are sketchy at best, but he spoke both English and Irish. He is said to have come from a farming family, but of course, no one was keen to come forward and claim he was their son.
Failures & Embarrassments
He died during a botched robbery. Rather than let himself be caught, he shot himself in the head.
Social
Family Ties
Andrew fathered children with at least three women, as confirmed by a combination of his own writings, claims of the women, and DNA testing. One of those women, Catherine McCarthy, were among those executed after his death for being a suspected accomplice.
